Mixed Reviews.................||Stayed here 3 nights as it was my Birthday and I had always wanted to visit Osborne House.|The Hotel /Pub is opposite the gates to the house so a perfect location,|We arrived 2pm ish and all was closed and locked up (it did say 3pm check in) so wasnt out of our ay to visit nearby Whippingham||Checking in. Theres a car park at the front but as its an Old building there are lots of steps so with luggage that's a mammoth effort!!! and required 2 trips.||Firstly we couldnt find a remote control for the TV (very small TV at that!) so member of staff took one from another room. We later discovered it was hiddenunder the bed throw! so had to go again to the bar to return it.||Complimentary Tea (;loose tea bags!) and coffee, milk sachets and some biscuits were there and fresh towels and soap etc||So we hoped for a lovely stay||The breakfast was lovely - home cooked and hot (l;ovely lady who cooked it) A hard worker! You could choose cereals or a full english breakfast. juice, tea coffee etc. Only downside I would dsayt is toast is not served seperate but balanced on the brealkfast plate!||Then the mishaps happened that made the stay less than enjoyable. Came back to room after first day out. Bed was made. We had left towels in shower to be replaced (one towel gad a stain on it we noticed on arriva;!) these were NOT replaced and no tea / milks etc replaced either so had to go down to reception AGAIN. Then the landlady? and barman came up with new towels and tea coffee to apologise.||I had also noticed ONE pillow had NO pillowcase - TWO days on purpose I left that on the top of the bed so it would be seen., It was ignored. The pillow was stained too!||NO working air conditioning so had to have window open, Fan orovided was useless - sounded like a rocket taking off (thankfully we had our own as my partner needs a fan for medical reasons)_||On the last day we were packing, we put their DO NOT DISTIURB sign on the door and locked it. Then heard a key turning and the room cleaner walked in - then said sorry and left. Well I laughted it off BUT thats really poor/ VERY POOR||This has the makings of a great business but these small mishaps do and WILL put custpners off, You have to be made feel welcome, We paid £315 for three nights and thats a lot for what it is, The location swung it for us but even so these errors.................||The rooms are themed with royal names and are small. I imagine its a listed building so they are limited what they can do and the renovations are lovely. The bathroom water / Loo operate on a water pump. So it occassionally rumbles for a few seconds.||Breakfast area needs refreshing. I am amazed they are not marketing the royal side of the Pub Hotel more as it has cvnnections to Osbornes histrory. Pub seems much quieter. We had a room at the back so as its on main road didnt have traffic passing by||Would we stay again.................

Read moreAs a visitor from Devon I was excited to go for a meal at this pub on the recommendation of an Island resident. What a disappointment! In the first place, it was a surprise to have the only starter ordered served at the same time as the 3 main meals! Nothing wrong with the starter but 2 of the main meals left much to be desired! The slow cooked belly pork should have been falling apart but was far from it, in fact literally inedible. The gammon steak was also so dry it could barely be cut. As part of the hospitality trade I would not normally complain but felt on this occasion it was necessary. Further disappointment. Although begrudgingly offered replacements which we did not want, £30 cash (we had paid by credit card) was literally thrown at us across the bar with the question "will that do?" Actually, no, but we accepted it, said thank you and returned to our table to finish our drinks. A lady we had not seen before asked if she could clear our plates to which we replied yes, seeing as their contents were inedible. She asked if we had been offered a refund and when we confirmed that we had, she said "at least you got that" . We pointed out that it had not been done graciously and she then inferred that that was because of the way we had spoken to the person to whom we had complained! This was totally out of order as we could not have been more polite or apologetic as we have all been part of the hospitality industry and know how hard it can be! Needless to say we will not be returning to the establishment on any future visits to the Island and our Island friend, embarrassed at our experience following their recommendation, has also said she will not be eating...
