A lovely setting, pretty buildings, and in a lovely location. This is handy, as you’ll be here for ages waiting for your food- don’t be fooled by the warning of twenty minutes, on a busy-ish day this is fifty at least; once you remind them that you’re still at the table of course, and not paid actors hired to make the place look popular. Not everyone benefits from the ‘order and forget’ service, some on our table managed to get their food about fifteen minutes before the rest of us, ensuring a hungry wait for the kids while they watch Nanny tucking into her half-cooked (and bloody expensive) tuna melt before it got even colder. Nanny got her karma though- she got to wait while the kids picked their way through some equally expensive and tepid cheese and ham toasted sandwiches! Order was restored. Kids meals are an ingenious idea- order the Lunch Box, get the apple and bag of cookies straight away, then when the adults food is eventually lobbed onto a plate from a distance, someone’s tuna sandwich is dug out of a handbag, wrapped in clingfilm, knocked about a bit and presented somewhat optimistically by a member of staff like a McDonalds worker would hand over a McFlurry at the drive-thru. I’m still here while writing this- hopefully none of the kitchen staff notice; I can only imagine they’re on their phones, as they’re certainly not wasting time doing...
Read moreVisited during half term which i, and most tourist places expect to be busy (or so I thought) , so only wanted takeaway drinks.
It was 12.30pm, fairly busy, although not full inside but many chose to sit outside. Having worked and still do work in catering these will be peak times of the year and generally you order extra supplies to cover what will be busier than normal.
I was in the queue when i heard they had ran our of chips (with almost all main meals with chips this caused issues with many peoples orders), Then I heard (from someone then having to change their order completely because if this) that they then had run out of onions! so a simple cheese and onion toastie was off the menu aswell. Pasties seemed a good option, but again only had a few of the meat version left. Anyway I ordered a hot chocolate for my son, a mocha for myself and a regular tea for my husband. (But they did have soya milk much to my surprise). The drinks come from a machine (not like your usual Costa, barista machine) and were mostly water ..not sure if any coffee or cocoa were actually dispensed to be honest. Even my husbands hot water for his tea wasn't anywhere near hot enough, but with the queue I couldn't be bothered to go back!!
All in all, this is a real shame.. this cafe could really be something. They really do need sort themselves out. I felt embarrassed...
Read moreI have eaten here many times and it’s always been ok but today it was awful. We were served by a person with a very dirty apron on. Me and my husband picked up a sandwich mine was soggy on the bottom and totally tasteless, my sons chips were dry and tasted like the oil needed to be changed and when the waitress turned up carrying two plates of food for another table but also had my daughters sandwich wrapped in cling film and being very squashed by her hands yuk. The only decent food was the walkers crisps.
This place could be amazing with the correct service and decent food . One waitress was amazing and was busy juggling clearing tables, serving and on the till. It...
