Went out for a birthday meal the Kids pasta was burnt, burgers were dry and had no flavour thia curry had 3 pieces of chicken in and it just tasted of cream. Also the birthday girl had to wait over 20mins for her meal to come out separate from the over food served that they couldn't get right When we told staff they admitted the food wasn't up to standard we were happy to pay for the drinks but obviously didn't want to pay for the food the owner came out and was very rude and threatening he went on to say their was nothing wrong with the food and he had 400 customers that day and have had 12 celebrities eating their and didn't have 1 single complaint although there was only 1 over table eating in there on a Monday night he then told us to leave and threatened us with posting us up on Facebook Such a shame as the staff was very Helpful and apologetic And tried there very best But the owner was out right rude and threatening and arrogant which scared my 4 and 6 year old kids Would not be coming back! Just been informed that the owner has posted cctv of my KIDS on social media which is against the LAW and if he do not remove that I will take further action And regarding never wanting to pay for the meal we didn't even eat the food and if he really thought that's what we were doing why wouldn't he have called the police as we waited around for 20 minutes to discuss the bill and we had food at the saddles in around d the corner on Saturday the food was lovely and was...

Sorry but this wasn't very good at all.Very limited parking outside so if you have elderly or disabled people with you be prepared to drop them then scour Lympstone to park.We were a party of 6,we were shown to our table then forgotten about, had to find the waitress and ask to order..the pub was very busy and the staff very apologetic. We had a scallop to start in a shell with a pastry top, they all looked suspiciously uniform.Out of a box i suspect.Tasted OK but not worth £8.00. Then the main course, all had a roast apart one who had pulled pork. The plates were cold, the food barely warm, again more apologies,we did feel sorry for the young staff having to deal with this.We realised after eating that there is probably not very much cooking goes on here, everything including veg looked, and tasted like it was brought in by a catering company and warmed through, the pulled..I mean minced pork..was the saltiest thing I have ever tasted, couldnt eat the whole thing.A couple of us had puddings, they were nice enough. This isn't a place we will return to and I couldn't recommend it.There is a service charge added to the bill which we paid as all the girls looking after us were lovely,so a...

Very impromptu visit to the Swan this week, which we had not visited since before the pandemic. Greeted and served very cheerfully and capably by Charlotte, who was delightful, we had a reasonably pleasant time. It may have been due to it being a weekday evening in early October, or perhaps it was the current economic situation, but we were surprised to find we were the only diners, apart from another group who were just leaving as we arrived. There were very few drinkers in evidence, but if there were any, they were very quiet and around the other end of the bar, out of sight. Again, perhaps out of season, but the menu had considerably fewer dishes than previously and seemingly catered well for those who like fish, which I unfortunately don't. However, my wife's vegetarian dish and the burger and chips I had were tasty, cooked well and plentiful. We thoroughly enjoyed the baked camembert to share as a starter, and would probably make a return visit just for this alone! Would like to see the Swan spread its wings a little and flourish, as I remember it from pre-pandemic times when it was a heaving village pub, as this was more like a (very enjoyable) private...

Well, I'm back here after a year, having heard it's improved, but I've still found it could be much better. The tables are still too close together, but it seems that the seats themselves are newer and a better height for the tables. The food was up & down as was the service. The starters came in good time, but both the scallops and the creamy mushrooms were not good, the latter in a bowl served with fried crispy bread bits instead of atop ciabatta bread as on the menu, the former, of poor taste plastered in a paste of low quality parmesan cheese. We had to wait over 30 mins for our main courses, which was, of course, too long and dented our appetites. The mains of fish chowder and belly pork were, however, tasty and well presented when they eventually arrived. This is a lovely pub in a lovely place. It's just a shame it can't do better. Without competition from The Redwing or The Globe, I don't suppose it will, though.

Brilliant pub lunch. Great friendly service. Chicken and bacon sandwich was crammed with meat, large portion of salad, coleslaw and crisps or chips. High quality, tasty and filled a full size dinner plate all for £8. Caesar salad even bigger with lots of excellent succulent chicken and the added tang of anchovies as well as slightly soft homemade garlic croutons. Selected a salad for something light on a warm day and only just managed to finish it. Excellent value, highly recommended. Revisited two years later and a bit of a back step. My partner opted for the prawn sandwich which was large but the flavour came from the sauce rather than the fish. My own crab sandwich was really tasty but was at least 50% brown meat which made it rather expensive. Service was ok but the young girls that work there seemed utterly disinterested. We took the decision to drive there specially, not sure we'll do so again

The Swan is a great pub - and in my opinion - the best in East Devon, being situated in the beautiful and historic estuary-side village of Lympstone. Real ale (Yellow Hammer and Otter with other guests) is always reliable and this summer they are featuring a huge array of ciders as well. Food is always well presented and very tasty. Currently they do a barbecue on Sundays, rather than roasts, but I hope the latter will come back come the autumn as the chefs know their way around a piece of roast beef! There are usually fresh fish specials too, if that's your thing. The staff are always attentive but it can get busy, particularly at weekends given its proximity to the Exe estuary cycle trail and the train station. Well worth a visit, but don't tell everyone, they'll all want to go.
