First visit: 05/08/2019 AM Lovely pub and friendly staff. Food was good, but you need to season the food before cooking it and let a good well seasoned steak rest before serving. Will definitely come back again though. Great location. Second visit: 18/08/2019 PM The full condiments asked for were not given to our table and no check back during dining. The table next to us had one within 2 mins of being served (well done). Food was very sub-standard, but as I was so hungry and with my pregnant partner I decided to wade through it!! Had no choice but to leave the steak, that was meant to me medium rare but was totally over done!!!! Waitress Sam (girl) was absolutely terrible!! I will be sharing my photos and experience with as many people as possible!!!! What made it even worse was, before I paid, if I had let her known the issue, she said she would have removed the item (that's what a check back is for, you were the problem Sam!!!)......she had not taken my payment at that point and did absolutely nothing and she still took my money! shame on you Sam and shame on table table (Whitbread)!!!!!!!!! We would have stayed for more drinks and a dessert each, but the total lack of care was enough for me to leave and review this place for the second and maybe last time!!!!!!!! Being a local and heavily into this industry I'm disgusted. I have taken pictures of the food and also dirty cutlery before I had to clean them on our table. Shame shame shame!!! I had to pay for that!!!!!!!!!!!! Good job Whitbread...more training needed.

I’d actually give less starts if the option was available. Sat down to eat our roast dinner, mine had a huge long hair resting across the top, I called the manager on shift who said “Oooh yes so it does” walked away with my dinner, continued to sit for a further 10 minutes, no idea where my dinner had gone, no offer of a drink an alternative or anything to even suggest they were replacing my meal - I found the same manager again to then be welcomed with a (the only way I can describe) slanging match about how he’d told me he was taking my dinner to be replaced, not an apology, no mention of how would you like us to deal with this situation, I was welcomed with a very confrontational manager repeatedly telling me I was wrong and then walked off to tell me he wasn’t arguing, no offer to refund the meal and then other member of staff on duty was equally as unhelpful when he brought the dinner back over, I told him everyone had finished and I now longer felt like eating, his attitude wasn’t great either, at that point did said I’d never return, which fell on death ears, didn’t seem to bother anyone they’d lost a regular customer! The sandwich I bought from the local shop was the alternative, will not be returning after an awful experience.

Went for breakfast with a friend on Saturday and couldn't believe the rudness of the staff and manager. My friend is on chemo so when ordering our breakfast she asked for her eggs to be flipped as she is no aloud runny eggs. After over an hour of waiting for our breakfast we enquire how much longer it would be to be told 5 minutes do you want it or not. The waitress was very abrupt and we felt very rude. We complained to another waitress who really wasn't interested. My friends breakfast finally arrived but her eggs were runny. My friend called the waitress over and told her she couldn't eat them. The waitress took the plate away and when she returned the eggs were like rubber swimming in grease. After telling the waitress the waitsaid well it is a fried breakfast . My friend said yes I am aware of that but everything is swimming in grease as the waitress walk away she muttered you want to take a leaf out of your own book. My friend called her back and ask her what she said as we couldn't believe our ears. The waitress repeated what she said which we really don't know what she meant by that. My friend couldn't eat any of her breakfast. On leaving I went to pay for mine and was waved away by the manager. My friend tried to explain about her chemo and how rude his staff were to be told by him that it was us that had been rude and he totally supported his staff and we were the problem. We have visited this pub with our families many times but not anymore. On leaving the manager said merry Christmas. I feel this is totally unexceptable behaviour. An outing out with my friend was meant to have been happy and pleasent not upsetting...

Very historic old pub. nice atmosphere, decor. Server was in your face. . We chose not to leave a tip as our food was delayed. Not everyone can afford to tip.!! Felt pushed into giving them the change as we paid cash, the server had our change in their pocket and asked if we wanted it!, which made it uncomfortable to say no!! I didn't appreciate this behaviour at all as i said we declined to tip. 2024. FEB 2025 DISGUSTING ATTITUDE OF THE SAME MEMBER OF STAFF A YEAR LATER!!!... after checking internet 🛜 BEFORE travelling as two buses are required for me to get there, I met with my mother and my dog 🐕 to dine in. Upon arrival we were greeted at the door by the same female server as we'd had before, only to be presented with a very rude/borderline aggressive attitude as she forcefully told us that NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED! We were both taken aback by her greeting. My mum then pressed her on this as it clearly says on all internet searches that dogs are welcome. The female was very rude towards my mum, saying dogs aren't and have never been allowed. We told her that it clearly says on the internet that it's " Dog friendly". This member of staff needs addressing over this matter. The internet information needs to be rectified. My mum will be phoning to make an official complaint.. very upsetting experience and we won't...
