Booked The cricketers inn as me and a friend was arriving late in the area and had an early morning local appointment.. ||Greeted by a polite young lady to check in, shown the double room, we started to make a tea, then no milks and a few open packets amongst the selection box so I ran around and some was brought to the room with an apology and so I also asked about dinner options and was told there's no chef on a tuesday but we put pizzas in an open oven. on closer inspection I noticed that absolute state of the room, which was number two on the side of the pub ground level. With cobwebs as long as my arm from the lampshade, the skirting boards covered in plaster dust from holes for a picture on the wall no longer there, barely any toilet roll. Filthy damp un hoovered carpet, damp bedding with holed sheets. Electrical tape holding the shower head up, the taps on the sink are so small for the basin you can get your hands under to wash them. ||So we decided to opt out of the pub pizza and ordered Dominoes as we knew what we'd get. So we're unwinding for the night as we had driven from Switzerland. I tried to get some reception on the phone which was very little so I tried the wifi which was terrible and dropping out. So I just hung out the door and made do with the odd flicker of reception but then we're in the countryside. ||Showered and into bed! Ok the bed was one of the worst I've experienced with feeling every spring in the mattress, so opted to sleep on top on the duvet,||Come morning I'm again just hanging out the door to get a few emails a fella walks past and who later I found out to be the landlord who asked are you staying one or two nights.. I said one.. and will I be wanting breakfast? Yes il be around soon..||While me and my friend was warming the car up a classic pre war vechicle we're driving before setting off and packing it.. he came over saying still having breakfast? Again I said yes and he said oh there's two of you in the room! Erm yes.. Maybe he's not seen two men share a bed in he's parts of the country, then asked what would you like for breakfast while standing in the car park, he said make it easy? He couldn't of been any ruder. We hadn't even sat down in the dining room and he's pestering us for a decision..||We entered the dining area to the side of the bar where I hand the room keys back and another set I found in the room, which I'm told was the master keys they thought they had lost!! Unreal!!!||We ate quickly as to be honest I just wanted to get out.. the place needs a good deep clean.. breakfast it self was 50/50 and while I'm very much into Labradors maybe not so much one staring at my eggs on toast at the table. ||We stood up and I shouted out thanks to the young lad that served us, He then mentioned there's a bill to be settled. I tell him no there's not it's paid via booking.com but he insists different and goes by he's terrible wifi computer system, so I said well sort it out with them. It's definitely paid for.. then as we're leaving he said payments gone through! Hmmm ok ||The room cost £85 and in my opinion I'd rather sleep in the open top car we drove 600 miles in than stay in this establishment ever again. ||Do yourself a favour and stay...

The rooms are quite small with desks covered with microwaves, fridges etc preventing working and have no internet access. Breakfast is mini boxes of cereal and while staying for a number of nights the bowls / cups weren't cleaned or changed.||||I was staying in the B&B for work and thought I would eat in the restaurant. The first night I went to eat in the pub at 20:45 to be told the kitchen was closing but got served, food ok but way to much and left 1/3 of it. Next night asked at 17:30 about serving times to be told they started serving at 19:30. The menu is very limited, 2 ale hand pumps, one beer well looked after, one past its best.||||Recently found out the pub got a Food Standards Agency Hygiene rating mark of 1 in March 2015 (Rating 1 - major improvement required) Ratings scale from 0-5.||||I was also charged twice for a stay and food (Nearly £100) after being told the debit card payment had not gone through while the machine had no paper in it, second payment was taken and despite speaking to Marcus three times and being assured the money will be returned, and emailing to no response I am still waiting nearly 3 months later. Trading standards and the Police are becoming involved.||||You probably wonder why I returned, it was only after my 3rd stay I found out about the fraudulent charges, I work odd hours so prefer self contained accommodation rather than a family B&B.||||I'm sure some people have a good experience but do you want to one of the bad ones, from the other reviews (restaurant) I am not the only one disappointed. I found a good Jolly place not far...
Read moreI booked a room by phone for 2 nights @ £55 per night. We checked in and within an hour we had cancelled the booking, viewed and booked a alternative room in a pub along the same road and obtained a refund from the Cricketers without question. We were booked in Room 4 which had a long abandoned car outside, the room was unaired, shabby, damp and smelly. The carpet was dirty, the heater did not work. The window latch was broken and was held together by what looked like a piece of string so totally insecure. There were flies in the room, including one crawling across the bed, and I have the photos to prove it. The bed covers were cold and damp and it would have been the last place on earth you would want to sleep in. The bathroom had mildew ++, holes in the vinyl flooring and was decidedly past its best. I made a bad mistake booking a room at the cricketers, please do the same as I did! I will also be checking my credit card statement to make sure no other charges have been...
