Really disappointed, visited in the summer with my husband and daughter, food was excellent. Went back last week and the whole experience couldn't have been more different. As we arrived a waitress asked us what we wanted to drink, my husband asked what beers they had and she replied 'don't know'! We asked what ciders were available again the reply was 'don't know, I've only been here a week'. Fair enough, but surely even the most basic of training says if a customer asks something and you don't know, you go and find out! We looked for ourselves and ordered drinks, I specifically asked for 'full fat' Pepsi, stressing I'm intolerant to sweetners and so definitely didn't want Max or Diet. My son ordered strawberry and lime rekorderlig. I was given Pepsi Max and my son was asked if squash was OK as they didn't have any cordial...We were told the soup was tomato and red pepper only to be told 5 minutes later they had run out. Understandable if it was the end of service but it was only 7pm. My son, who is a chef, asked if he could have the burger meal but change the beef burger for a pan fried chicken breast (the chicken breast was on the menu as part of another dish) but was told this wasn't possible. Even McDonald's can manage this. After waiting over an hour for our meals, the steak my daughter ordered to be cooked medium, came out so rare a good vet could have got it back on it's feet. She also asked for veg instead of mushroom and tomato this didn't come out. My husband, who had ordered pie, mash and seasonal veg, got a nice slice of pie with barely a tablespoon of mash and even less cabbage. On our previous visit the dish came with potatoes and three other veg. We asked for more veg and eventually it arrived. Two bowls containing mostly cabbage, a few peas and two pieces of carrot. Unfortunately by the time the veg arrived my husband had eaten the pie and mash. Can't fault the desserts but the rest of the meal was so disappointing. The waitress who cleared the mains asked how the food was and didn't seem surprised when I told her what a let down it was. No recompense was offered. Won't be going...

Attended this restaurant on Sunday 15th September we were a family of four adults the starters arrived they were lovely we were booked to dine at 3.30pm two in the company opted for the Sunday roast beef - matured an seasoned with garlic and herbs along with-seasonal vegetables stuffing an roast potatoes - what arrived was absolutely diabolical .. the beef was slimy wafer thin an presented like kebab meat it was the worst roast beef I personaly have ever tasted the Yorkshire puddings were rock hard cold an unappetising and the roast potatoes rock hard and cold an congealed not fit to serve to a dog let alone a person ….unfourtunately the vegetables whilst sparse slimy and also cold were disgusting too and gravy cold an minimal …… my other two guests went for the Sunday roast chicken it was no better dried up tasteless like it had sat for hours on a hot plate and the seasonal vegetables diabolical too I’m afraid too relay thus I conveyed our dismay to the waitress who apologised profusely —- we asked to see the chef to get his explanation for serving such rubbish to diners within a restaurant but he failed to materialise however the manageress did , and she apologised too an then conveyed there had been other complaints too an they were no longer serving sunday roasts as a result of the numerous complaints she then asked if we would like our pre ordered desserts which beggared disbelief - but in light of what we had partially eaten we couldn’t face more disappointment or stomach upsets - - - the manageress removed the price of the mains and I generously paid for the starters an pre dinner drinks to the tune of £80 and left hungry dismayed and dissapointed with the manageress saying as we left please call again …… I think not I’m tempted to call in an health inspector as we have all food poisoning symptoms they formerly had a great food reputation but this shambles is worthy of a visit from Gordon Ramseys tv show …….. so so deplorable and disappointing I’d not recommend this establishment to my worst enemies I’m...

Looking at your reviews, we must have been unlucky. Booked for six for my husband's birthday at lunchtime. The meal was nearly an hour coming. When it arrived, couldn't believe it. Two had egg, ham, chips. One egg, two tiny bits of ham, and a few chips. Looked like a child dinner. Think the cost was around 13 poundish? Let that go. Two had fish and chips, fish out on the small amount of chips, and a spoonful of mushy peas. Let that go mine was "supposed" to be chicken Kiev, mash and brocolli. I took a mouthful of the mash which fell like dust on my plate, no butter in it, in fact I was told by the waitress that it was powdered form of mash. I cut the Kiev to find it was a fried piece of very dry chicken Kiev but no butter or garlic at all? I, for the first time in my life of eating in pubs, complained. Then my husband took a bite from his mushy peas that he found to be cold, and I don't mean gone cold, I mean totally uncooked cold. The waitresses were extremely sorry and totally could see what I was saying. We were told that we would not be charged for the meal, not that I intended to pay anyway. And, lastly, my friend had to stop eating his pork because the inside was completely pink and raw. Too Late to complain about that, but that one was the most dangerous!!! We were told the head chef was off that day, who was cooking I have no idea but he)she was not a chef of any description Disappointing day for my...

The Red Lion came recommended yesterday morning whilst taking in the view at Hayling Island, by Danny Boy the Irish Red Setter’s Mum and Dad! Very nice old traditional pub with a fire in the settle and a bar with good selection of beers, wine and all good grog ! Bar man full of dad jokes and great customer service. Tracey the trousers ( yes sexist ) is boss woman and all round do’er - manager is a great asset to the Red Lion . Had Pie & Mash with roasted vegetables, tasted delicious and all home made and reasonably priced . The Menu has lots of dishes to chose from and even a kids menu . Just what I needed after a morning down the beach on a chilly day . Lovely little pub, will be back I’m sure . If your passing that way even if you don’t want to eat it’s,worth stopping to have a drink. Thank you / Diolch yn fawr Cariad and all the team at The Red Lion.

Stumbled across this lovely country pub on a bit of a hike, we had got lost several times and sought sanctuary here in the beautiful garden with gorgeous views. I'd actually hurt my foot and our car was another four miles, after already having walked 15.5.... When we got our refreshments the fabulous server, Tracey Light, listened to our sorry tale and offered us a lift back to our car in her break - I could've wept at her kindness, completely above and beyond as far as customer service goes! We will definitely be back to tuck into one of their tasty looking roasts, Tracey said they were delicious and I'm inclined to believe her! Thank you for your warm friendly welcome and especially to Tracey - not all heroes wear capes! ❤️
