Have visited this establishment three times for food now, once with just my wife and the second time with my children (4 and 7).
The shop itself has a large range of hot tubs, antiques(?), home decorations, lights, even live snakes! Prices range from very affordable to expensive but only in the sense that the expensive items are extremely nice and well worth the money. They often have items for sale, have a massive range of bath bombs (larger than Lush and just as nice) and sell local jams, chutneys, biscuits and other such items.
The food itself - on the first occasion my wife and I had an omelette which came with a large portion of chips and salad and a sun dried tomato, mozzarella and pesto pannini that also came with salad. We also had two lattes. The omelette was one of the nicest I have ever eaten, served fresh and hot and it was big. My wife's pannini was equally just as nice and served fresh. I was very impressed that we had effectively eaten a whole meal and had two coffees for £9.00 per head. Very reasonable.
The second time we just had cake and coffee. I assume the cakes are homemade because they look fantastic in the counter window. We ordered 4 slices of various cake, one of which was mint chocolate that was extremely well made. We also all had coffees and kids drinks. This came to around £20.00 for 5 of us which for the size of the cakes and all the drinks I thought was brilliant.
The coffees were very well made and enjoyable each time - made properly, not too hot but drinkable as a latte should be.
Each time the waiting staff have been brilliant all extremely polite, helpful, friendly and constantly smiling.
One random point I must mention as, this is the honest truth - the toilets here were the cleanest toilets I have ever seen in a restaurant. Not a spot of dirt or dust in the means toilets.
Will be returning again with family for either a meal or cake and coffee, thoroughly recommend this place for food and an...
Read moreOh dear! Have eaten here numerous times and also bring friends and rels when staying with us and it has always been good. Since my last visit the restaurant area has been expanded and moved to what used to be the main shop floor area. Gone is the large but still kind of cosy dining area at the back. On entering the store you are now confronted with an array of hot tubs and a sea of diners. We took a seat at one of about 6 or 7 empty tables and I ordered a 1/2 English and coffee, the waiter informed us that there would be about a 30 minute delay due to being busy. Breakfast arrived after about 20 minutes. My breakfast looked as though it had all been stacked up in the centre of the plate and had all slid down as it had been brought to the table. There was so much liquid on the cold plate that it looked like soup. I tipped about 3 tablespoons of tomato juice and oil from the eggs and mushrooms onto my side plate, I then discovered that the underside of my toast was essentially charcoal. Further examination of the lukewarm offering revealed a charcoal sausage placed good side up, under cooked bacon and a plate filling up with juice and oil again at which point we gave up. The waiter agreed that what we had been served was rubbish and offered us alternatives but we weren't prepared to wait again and left after paying £4.50 for two cups of regular coffee, no offer to waive the cost. It would seem that they were onto a good thing, see other reviews but perhaps someone has got a little greedy or perhaps I just don't like cold, full English burnt soup. Certainly won't be returning anytime soon. If I could leave no stars or...
Read moreCame to H&E for a bit of brunch today (Sunday Afternoon) Never been here before, so we thought we'd pop in and have a try!
We were immediately greeted and seated along with menus close to the burner in the middle, it was giving off a nice bit of heat, but not too much to make you feel uncomfortable.
5 minutes later the waitress came and asked what drinks we'd like - I had a large latte, my other half had a large cappuccino. They came to us within the next 5 minutes or so.
We continued to browse the menu for what food we wanted and waited a little longer than what we'd like (roughly 10mins) for someone to ask what we wanted, so we had to grab the attention of someone so we can place an order.
I had their double English breakfast with a couple of slices of toast, the other half had a tuna panini and a side of chips. Both of them came out within a suitable amount of time, nice a hot too.
Overall, no complaints about the food or drink. It was really good and would definitely return for food again. The condiments (ketchup and mayo) were all single serve and I think an extra cost too.
The only thing I could negatively comment on, but only slightly, is the attentiveness of the waiting staff. It's definitely not a big negative, but we were waiting a bit longer than expected to be asked what food we'd like, especially when it wasn't overly busy.
Nevertheless, the waiting staff were extremely polite, friendly and made sure that we were happy with what we had. Well worth the money we paid, and a well deserved tip for the staff.
Cost; can't remember exactly, but it was around...
