Quiet country pub you would miss if you didn't know it was there.
Went for a family meal out with three children (14, 8, 17m) and 5 adults. We booked via email and they put us in the dining room, which was ideal as our 17m son can be quite vocal!
We had an array of waiting staff to help us through the evening and the ladies were superb, coping very well with our poor sense of humour! The gent was a bit aloof and I felt like we were inconveniencing him a bit tbh.
Food was excellent (whitebait, chicken liver pate being winners for the starters). Home-made lasagne was described by the consumer as 'herby' by one and 'the best he's ever had' by another, but the clear winner of the evening was the homemade chicken and leek pie. Shortcrust base and puff lid and huge slabs on a generous bed of mash. It was flavourful and SO nice not to have a pie dish full of casserole with just a puff lid!! Desserts were also well portioned and delicious (sticky toffee with real dates was again extremely good).
Will definitely be back...
Read moreI visited the Fox yesterday for lunch with a group of motorbikers. All of us except 1 had block preordered our luch an hour earlier so when we arrived there was no delay with the food service which was excellent. The remaining order was taken as soon as we arrived and the food came out with the rest so we all got to eat together. The landlord took our drinks orders and brought them to us at a pace and all correct, in fact he remembered what some had ordered despite them forgetting, we are getting old 🙄 The pub itself is a lovely old, rustic country pub with wooden beams etc. It's comfy and snug and I'd imagine a great focal point for the locals in the winter. The car park is of a readonable size and gravelled. There are sitting areads outside. The prices are reasonable and they don't appear to be trying to claw back CoVid losses with silly price increases. All in all an excellent pub and visit and I am sure the group and I will revisit...
Read moreThe food cannot be faulted but service was slow and inattentive. There for nearly half an hour before order was taken but had previously ordered drink which we had to remind them of and this turned up after the food. We had to ask for the wine list. I am not a resteraunt owner or a pub owner, but when being directed to the table, I might ask if a drink or the wine list is wanted. Maybe, if you're not leaving the wine list on the table, it wasn't, then it is a definite. Rather than leaving the punter languishing for twenty minutes before having them go to the bar to ask for said wine list. It is after all a pub so you'd expect them to push the drinks. Very noisy as well with the sound of empty bottles being thrown into containers behind the bar every few minutes in what appeared to be some sort of competition between the bar staff. The food is very good of that there is no doubt and maybe it would be better to be there when they are ...
