The Woodman & Olive Broxbourne — Restaurant in East Hertfordshire

Let me start by saying , i've went there for work, and i have no regrets.

I worked as a waiter for about 2 months, and they actually paid me.

The problem was that when i was reaching at the end of the month i informed the boss about my payment that it finishes in a week , so logically i should be getting paid on that specific day , he forgot it, so i complained him and i was able to get the money in the next day.

The first month finished, and the Second month came , and it happened quite the same.

It was monday and the last week of the second month ,and i told him that if is possible to get the money a little bit early so i wouldn't worrying about getting the money in the last day.He said ""Okayy""

I was thinking that I wanted the money earlier so why should i go with the sunday and i said what the heck let me believe on him another one time, because i have my own beliefs about believing on people.Anyways He also told me that the saturday he wouldn't be here so i remind him at friday about the payment at sunday.

Sunday came it was morning i asked him , Did you remembered? He said " No" He didn't said nothing after that and i had to ask him later "when would i get my payment of the month" he said the afternoon.

Afternoon came , he came and he didn't told me anything about my money and i didn't ask about it. When the day was finishing i called him and i remind him about the money he said he would come in about 1- 1:30 hours to pay me. I was in my bed , and i thought should i wait him or not and i said i should sleep and if he comes he would wake me up because i was sleeping in one of the room's of the restaurant.

The next day in the morning i called him , and he said he would come and pay me , in the end after all he paid me.

Last but not least , i made this review , not for me but about everyone who might go over there for work, because they might actually experience this kind of things so they should be aware of it.

However i would also like to say some good things about the restaurant and the area. The food over there is amazing and you gonna love it, the place over there is lovely too with the forest (trees) and the grass.

The woodman and olive pub , is just a good place and i recommend for every person who would like to get some delicious food on his belly;p and want to have some fun on the greek night's.

I might had an issue getting paid , but that doesn't mean that everything sucks :) I loved the food, which our chef was making and the trees outside is was just a good place...

Poor customer service

We went for my mum's birthday in February, hoping to have a lovely family meal together. We're all Greek too, so were excited to have familiar food, friendly service and find out about where the owners were from and chat to them about Cyprus.

Unfortunately, we had terrible service - the food took a long time to get to us (they weren't that busy) and at no point did anyone come and give us an update. One of our dishes was forgotten and after I asked for it (I had to go to find a waiter to ask, as no one seemed to come to our table) our waitress then came up to me to tell me I had cancelled that dish and that she didn't forget it (I hadn't cancelled it). Instead of coming over to apologise, she decided it was better to confront me. Lovely.

After the starters, the mains took about 45 minutes to arrive. With 4 kids (aged 6, two aged 2 and a six month old baby), you can imagine how fun it was waiting patiently for our meals. Again, no apologies or updates or just anyone coming over to see how we were.

When the meals finally arrived, they were ok.

When we ordered our food at the beginning, my sister ordered a takeaway for her husband and son, who couldn't make the meal as they were poorly. This was at 3pm and we asked for it to be ready for 5pm. At 4.55pm, we were ready to leave - it was a tiresome afternoon and we wanted to sing happy birthday to my mum, with her birthday cake and get outta there. We asked if the takeaway was ready, and were told it was a couple of minutes away. It later transpired that they had forgotten to put the order through, but instead of being honest and telling us that, they just kept telling us it was a couple of minutes away..... We didn't get it til 5.30pm. After asking for the 3rd time, my sister was met with an angry bar man, who was clearly frustrated with being asked again and in his anger, threw a glass bottle into the bin so hard, it smashed on impact with the bin. Nice.

During our dinner, my mum's brother rang up to order us a bottle of champagne. He asked if my mum was there, to which they answered that they were too busy to check. He asked again, and of course, was met with the same answer. He then told them not to worry, that he was only going to order a bottle of champagne for the table....well, of course, they were suddenly not busy but my uncle decided to buy her it as a present instead, as they were rude to him!

Suffice to say, we won't...

We were handed plates for our food and 3 of us had to wipe the brown dried drips off those plates

We ordered food and when it arrived it was cold and dry with no flavour and was a poor portion size. Well for most of us it was as 1 person got their food 15 minutes after the rest of us.

We asked as it was a birthday could we have the food reserved as it was not of the standard we expected and we couldn't eat it. The manager said we were wrong then tried the food and suddenly agreed.

The waitress took our plates and cutlery but didn't ask if we needed anymore drinks or remove our empties despite us putting them at the end of the table.

20 minutes later the food was returned and although hot, was still dry and tasted like old condiments, not much like the meat we ordered. The waitresses did not bring cutlery so as we sat and watched our food going cold again we asked for and were eventually given cutlery.

Again we had 1 person whos meal seemed to have been forgotten. After 30 minutes we thought lets leave as whether we have food or not none of us are eating right now.

When we asked for the bill I went to discuss the bill with the manager he walked away from me with no acknowledgement and chose to aggressively and abruptly confront the birthday girl in the group about how we were in the wrong.

In summary: The management are awful ( I work in hospitality and would not dream of acting like this) The waitresses need retraining Awful portion sizes for the cost (one octopus TENTACLE was £7.50) Food was bland and dry The food is not greek food as you know it AVOID,...
