Mrs Wanderer and I dropped by the Black Horse Inn at Donington on Bain for some lunch on Friday this week. We were warmly welcomed by, I think, Victoria and although we hadn't booked were offered a table with no problems.||||The menu and specials board covered a nice range of main meals and light snacks and we were really quite spoiled for choice. In the end we both plumped for a starter each together with a shared portion of chips. Mrs W chose the black pudding topped with bacon and a poached egg drizzled with a light mustard sauce and I went for the chicken and chorizo skewers coated with a lovely chilli sauce.||||Presentation on arrival was high-end and I was told that the egg was perfectly poached and that the meal in general was exceptional. My chicken and chorizo was so tasty that I could have gone round a second time. My mouth was left with a pleasant sense of heat which is often missing when a meal is advertised as involving chilli. Wonderful!||||All-in-all a great choice of place to eat and we would thoroughly...

Firstly I have given a 5 star review because my food was geninuley wonderful, my friend who had the lasagne wasn't as good, it was a bit too far overdone.
Greeting
Welcomed by a gent who was friendly.
Food
GARLIC MUSHROOMS... 😍😍😍 These are fantastic, what a wonderful starter (there not deep fried either)
Every part of that starter is just incredible if you like garlic and mushrooms.
Burger
This is geninuley fantastic, I make burgers myself and its far above my standard, what a tasty wholesome burger, especially if you have it with brie instead of cheddar 😉, but truly if you like a "dirty burger" this is super special, the chef puts a lot of care into his food he puts out.
Dessert
Vanilla cheesecake
Can't really tell if it's "shop bought" (felt bought in) but the raspberry Coull is was delightful.
Good value for money, lovely little pub, staff are very friendly and tentative.
I will return if ever I'm back again.

On arrival we settled into our rooms before heading to the restaurant to eat. The rooms were tidy, clean and well appointed making for an excellent night's sleep. Our meal was fantastic; the menu is varied but not over complicated with a number of family favourites including halloumi and tempura prawns to start with roast beef and chicken pie for mains. The food was well prepared and thoroughly enjoyable. Finished off with a good desert and washed down with a selection of local beers.
The next morning breakfast was served promptly (accommodating our early start and one vegetarian) and included a full English, toast, cereals, fruit juice and teas and coffee.
Absolutely recommended and will definitely visit again when...
