Weāve just returned from a wonderful 5-night stay at The Durham Ox, and I can honestly say itās one of the best campsites weāve visited. The pitches are amazing large, immaculate, and well-kept with clean gravel. The whole site has such a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere, made even better by the beautiful pub attached.
We kicked off our first evening with the pub quiz nothing too taxing, just great fun and a perfect way to start the trip. We also enjoyed two incredible meals during our stay. The service from Jacqui and her daughter was second to none warm, welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble. The food itself was just perfect: generous portions, great quality, and full of flavour. My partner had the burger on one visit (and declared it the best heās ever tasted!) and fish & chips on the next, both superb. I couldnāt resist having their fish cakes both times theyāre that good! We rounded off with their lemon curd martinis a must-try indulgence of limoncello, spiced rum, and cream. Wow!
The location is perfect for exploring Lincolnshire. As keen cyclists, we made the most of the local routes a particular highlight was riding from Woodhall Spa to Lincoln to visit the cathedral. Skegness is also within easy reach if you fancy some seaside bustle, and Horncastle is lovely for a leisurely wander.
Weāll definitely be back thank you to everyone at The Durham Ox for a...
Read moreWe went to have a Sunday lunch, when we were booking it we were told it was a carvery. We arrived and we then found out it was a preset dinner meal. We ordered 2 beef and 2 pork dinners. The meal came and we were all disappointed, the plate came with a fair portion of meat 2 roast potatoes a Yorkshire pudding on the beef and a Yorkshire pudding on the pork which cost a pound each. There was mashed potatoes, but less than a table spoon. The vegetables came and was served on a dish 7" x 5" to feed 4. We asked if there was more vegetables and were told yes it would be put on the bill. (£2.75) The quality of food was good the amount that was presented was small. The person serving was rude and very sarcastic, basically you can come to our restaurant spend nearly £60 walk out hungry. And call at kentucky on my way home and have a 3 piece meal. (Which is what I did) So unless you have the appetite of a 8yr old my advice is take your business elsewhere. I hate to say it but in this case even kfc was welcome. In my home town we get more and the same quality meals 2 for a tenner. Basically it...
Read moreA Dinner Date with my Husband. For a treat my husband booked for us to eat out on We4densdayt evening for a change. We were shown to our table in the window in the old part of this lovely pub. There was a good menu to choice from. I decided to have the Thimberly Chicken, and Stuart had Fish and Chips and Garden peas. We had to wait quite a time over half an hour but they were busy and I know that the food is always cooked fresh so you don't mind waiting. It arrived piping hot and smelling great. The Chicken consisted of breast, bar-a-que sauce and a slice of bacon and cheese that had been under the grill. Served with Salted Chips and a small salad in a dish. It was absolutely lovely, tender chicken great sauce and the salad had a lovely dressing on it, that made it. Stuarts meal was again piping hot and he said that it was excellent.Together with the drinks it was over £26.00 which was very good value. We will remember next time that Wednesday Nights is Quiz Night so if you want a quiet meal together then maybe choose...
