Nestled in the heart of Alford, this establishment proved to be a haven for sports enthusiasts seeking both camaraderie and quality libations. Upon entering, we were immediately enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere, setting the stage for an enjoyable evening ahead. While our visit was brief, it was abundantly clear that this venue takes pride in its commitment to hospitality. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles and a genuine eagerness to ensure our experience was nothing short of exceptional.    Read moreFrom the outside it looks like a top notch village pub where you would expect a cosy atmosphere and a roaring open fire and hearty grub
Inside isn’t like that sadly as you find a very cold and basic decor that feels a bit like sitting in the staff room at the local co-op
The people running the pub were friendly enough but seemed distracted to the point of losing most of the warm welcome and customer service you’d expect to see.
So I sat and ordered a steak and ale pie which most pubs can do well
What I got was a dish of inedibly tough stewing steak with a ridiculous puff pastry top that just crumbled to dust when cutting it. Honestly was such a disappointment that such a basic dish can be messed up as badly
The couple on the table next to me were discussing the lack of attention and atmosphere in the pub and I couldn’t disagree
It’s a curious place.
If they can improve it and have it as nice on the inside as the outside promises then daytime midweek trade would be much better
Oh and there’s no lock on the toilet cubicle door either so you have to sit and physically hold the door shut
And I wasn’t offered any condiments or sauces with my meal at all
Attention to detail (and their customers) from staff here could make all the difference
And a huge uplift in standard of food and service needed to get repeat custom during...
Read moreTiny bit disappointed to be honest. Could have said but no one likes to be embarrassed. Chicken burger was an over cooked SMALL piece of chicken in a dry bun. No relish blah blah. Chips tasted fine but were well soft. Beer was good and the service faultless. A cheery landlord which was nice. I struck lucky as my all day breakfast was excellent apart from the dry sliced mushrooms. The butter for the toast wasn't frozen so that was reassuring. Sausages, bacon and hash brown ten out of ten. Comfy seats with plenty of atmosphere going on. Highly recommended, just don't expect much from a...
