Sadly a poor experience. Firstly, it's been a long time since we visited a pub with so many options on the menu, the last time was about 15yrs ago, and it never worked then. Too many options makes me suspect food is usually far from fresh. Today was exactly that.... Our first server knew little-nothing about the menu and when our food arrived we still didn't even have the cutlery to eat with. The food itself..... Chicken Diane with chips and veg......dry chicken, and veg so overly cooked it was almost opaque and offered a similar taste. The child's cheese and tomato pizza was straight from a frozen Chicago town packet. The battered cod was crispy and bubbly on top, but then wet and soggy underneath and had no taste (Frozen?). Finally, the bit I looked forward to based on recent reviews - Steak. 8oz Rump. Looked like a nice juicy, thick cut of meat which quickly turned to disappointment when I cut into it. My medium steak was well done, didn't have a sign of pink and to top it off, it was very dry and tasteless. Possibly the worst steak I've ever been served. To top it off, no-one cared to check if everything was ok, and they weren't even half full at this stage. We ended up calling the waitress over to let her know how poor the food was. The desserts were a bit better, but still smacked of 'every box ticked in the frozen food suppliers order book'. The best out of our selection was the orange sponge with a dark chocolate frosting - nice and fluffy. Our 2nd server was great, she was very attentive and very apologetic with regards to the mains. It puts a smile on your face when you're offered "puddings" - something I'd only ever heard my mum say when I was a kid. Above all a disappointment. A great looking establishment, a bizarrely small family eating area compared to the larger 'adults' section (you're next door to a huge family holiday park!), a very dated menu with too much to choose from. Sometimes less is more = better quality home cooked food. I'm sure a lot of customers would prefer taste above all, which showed when it was getting a lot busier after the early bird menu had finished (price doesn't always generate good business). My recommendation to the owners would be to focus on the strengths of the abundance of local produce from both the land and sea. Make the food better than the décor and you'll be on...
Read moreMy wife and I visited Tattershall Country Pub and Kitchen when we stopped at the Country Park at the weekend. We had been to several of the other pubs previously and always had good experiences - hence why we chose this pub for a couple of meals out. We tried to book online but it said they were fully booked for Friday evening. I rang up and they said they could "squeeze us in" that night. When we got into the restaurant, it was practically empty; I'm not sure why we couldn't book online in the first place. We ordered our food and, like other pubs in the chain, said we would have a few of the complimentary sides as the member of staff hadn't offered them which was unusual in our previous experience. However, both meals arrived with chips and vegetables on our plates and no side dishes. We asked if complimentary sides were still part of the restaurant and were told yes they were - so we ordered them again. We were disappointed with the experience but had already booked to come again Sunday before we left for home.
We returned on Sunday to try the restaurant again and were informed that the early diner menu wasn't being used and it was just the normal dinner menu. We ordered our meals and I was offered egg, pineapple or both on my gammon (only to find out it was an extra when we paid the bill and I was not told at the time of ordering). The pineapple was served with the skin still on - see photo attached. When our food arrived, the "complimentary" sides had been served on our plates again so I asked for some extra chips with our food. However, when the bill arrived, I'd been charged for our complimentary chips. I queried this with the waitress and she said it was due to COVID that this policy had changed - despite the menu still stating they were doing complimentary sides. I informed her that on Friday our sides had been complimentary and the chain had always done it that way. She took the receipt away and sorted it out for us luckily but I feel it was unfair for others who had not visited before who did not know that sides were complimentary. Overall, the food was average and not the experience we'd been used to at other pubs...
Read moreHad a meal here whilst staying at tattershall lakes with friends. We were a party of 8, and had pre booked. The table was ready when we arrived. We were advised it was full table service so drinks were ordered at the table and arrived timely (however this would be the first and last drink we were offered). Most of us opted for the early bird menu, with some having starters and mains. Other ordered mains and desserts. We waited quite a while for the food. Some members had meals with potatoes and sides missing, which we had to ask for. Starters came out during the mains and we were all eating at different times (we were later told that the ticket was put through for the starters to be brought out together with the mains, which we never was asked about). Mixed reviews on the food my meal was personally tasty, however others food was overdone (a sharing platter I believe). We were never asked if the food was ok or if we wanted further drinks. After a mix up with the starters and mains ( we overheard waitresses swearing as they realised they mixed up), we sat for a long period; easily almost an hour. Then we decided we would have to ask about our desserts, we were told they were getting put through now. However we ordered these at the same time as the starters and main. We finally plucked up the courage to speak to the manager who was lovely and professional, she apologised and explained she was not aware of the poor service we recieved and was very understanding. She resolved this promptly and offered for the drinks only to be billed. We all decided to cancel our desserts. Such a shame as the venue itself was lovely and if the staff had of communicated with the manager initially then apologies may have been given by the waitresses at the time of the issues. Granted mistakes sometimes happen we are all human, however some of the attitudes of the staff did not portray professionalism towards paying customers. We were wanting to go out for a roast dinner on the Sunday but decided to stay in and have this...
