A "Must-Visit" Gem for Alton Towers Trips!
As Alton Towers regulars (visiting 4-5 times a year for 8 years), we can't believe we've only just discovered The Tavern. What a fantastic find!
🌟 Service & Welcome From the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional. The gentleman behind the bar (who we think might be the owner) was incredibly welcoming and sat us in his "favourite spot." The barmaid who took our food order was just as lovely, kindly accommodating our fussy eaters without any fuss (which we really appreciated!). We were given activity sheets for the kids and checked on throughout the meal, but never in an intrusive way. We felt truly looked after.
🍔 Food & Drinks The food was great!
Our order included: 3 Cowboy Burgers 1 Kids Cheeseburger 1 Chicken Wing Sharer (plain) 1 Mac and Cheese with Pulled Pork Starter Everything arrived together and was hot, fresh, and clearly freshly prepared (not just "dinged" in a microwave). The portions were generous but not overwhelming. It was all delicious, and we were positively stuffed by the end.
🎃 Atmosphere & Extras The pub had a great feel and was decorated for Halloween, which our youngest loved. We also spotted they were selling pint glasses for £3 each to raise funds for the British Legion Poppy Appeal. We bought three as lovely souvenirs for the grandads!
💸 Parking & Value Parking: There's a plentiful, free car park at the community centre just opposite. Pro-tip: It's easy to miss, so you might want to put the community centre into your sat nav.
Value: This is where they truly excelled. The barman let us know there was 40% off mains, and our entire bill (all that food plus 4 large soft drinks) came to just over £60. It was incredibly reasonable for such a high-quality meal and experience.
We will 100% be back on our next Alton Towers adventure. Highly...
Read moreCame in on Wednesday night (6:15pm) with my partner, my kid and her friend after taking this to Alton Towers.
Found a place to sit really easily and the atmosphere was awesome, sadly it was let down by two things.
Slow wait time for food, we ordered at 6:24 and waited around an hour.
While 3 meals were nice, sadly the mixed grill was not at all great. The steak was cold, the gammon was super hard and cold and the chicken was rock solid (I had to use a steak knife to try and cut it). The egg served was solid too. The tomato was cold and soggy, the peas were cold and dry.
I did mention this to the staff, we were told my "egg" was mixed up with another gentleman's who wanted it well done (who sat down about 20 minutes after us too)... but nothing was said about the state of the meat, replacements were not offered, sadly the only resolve offered was another egg.
The sausages were nice and the chips were good, but this means I paid £16 for two sausages and chips.
Other than that, the pub has a lovely garden area which would be lush with nice weather, drinks were reasonable prices (Marstons I believe) and as a whole, the pub seemed really nice. They had a piano that I was...
Read moreA genuinely tasteful, traditional English pub. The Tavern is a traditional 17th Century pub, tastefully extended to accommodate a cosy but adequately spacious dining area.
Food is fantastic. All meals were served hot and at the same time. We were a party of 13 and not one complaint was heard!
Whilst the homely dining environment and delicious food was enough to satisfy us, what really sets The Tavern apart from any other pub is the ambience. The atmosphere is cosy and intimate- yet welcoming and very friendly. This atmosphere radiates through all of the guests.
And the people to thank for this friendly, warm welcoming ambience is The Tavern’s super friendly team. Our party received exceptional service from Paula tonight who I cannot thank enough for ensuring my birthday was as enjoyable as possible. Paula is an asset to The Tavern, and thanks to her personable, friendly, genuine service we cannot wait to visit again. Friday night pizza night it is!
Thanks to Paula and the team for a wonderful birthday meal.
Good vegan / vegetarian options. Wood fired pizza is great. A super pint of Guinness. Open fire. Dart board. Quiz night every...
