I was really disappointed with the food. My friend ordered the Meat Fiest Pizza which was described on the menu as a stone-baked sourdough pizza, but it was far from that. The dough was dry and felt like it hadn't been baked properly, and the toppings weren’t even mixed in — the meat was just scattered on top separately. The overall presentation was really poor and honestly reminded me of something you'd get in a school canteen. We also tried the vegetarian pizza, and sadly, it wasn’t any better. Again, it looked and tasted like something you'd expect from a low-end cafeteria. Definitely not worth the price of £16. Waitresses did a great job but it didn’t really help.

Haven't been here for years since the Gaskin family ran it. It has since been taken over and fully refurbished. The environment is very modern and cosy. The staff were very efficient and friendly. The food was fantastic. Best steak I have had in a very long time. Only problem was that they ran out of all coke syrups so had to restort to expensive glass bottles (ÂŁ3.15!) They accept blue light NHS card too.

This is a pub more than a hotel. We went for the Christmas party. Food was mediocre. Piaf rice was dry, not fresh. It was like microwaved from a refrigerated batch. I had selected blueberry and apple crumble. It was more like blue berry jam. Dish was topped with crumbled weetabix. Overall a disappointing experience. Service was good. Staff gave discount for the interior quality food.

Came here for a family meal, and while everyone else seemed to be enjoying their food, I made the fatal error of ordering a pizza. Let’s just say if you took a backstreet takeaway pizza, wrapped it in disappointment, and served it lukewarm, you’d still probably come out on top.

The cheese on this thing was thicker than a winter coat, and the sauce? Let’s just say bland doesn't begin to cover it. Oh, and the pièce de résistance: a hole in the middle of the base. Yes, a hole. So essentially, I was served a pizza crater with a mountain of unmelted cheese and a hint of "is that tomato?"

Now, I did mention this pizza disaster to the staff, who kindly whisked it away... but they didn’t bring me anything else. So there I was, sitting at a family meal, with a growling stomach, hoping someone would slide a chip my way.

End result: hungry. I didn’t get stuck with the bill, so no idea if I was charged for my pizza-shaped sadness or not. But if I was, I hope it came with a side of regret!

EDIT: Thank you for the response, but I wasn't offered anything else to eat, it certainly wasn't the case that I didn't fancy anything else. The pizza was removed and no other alternative...

Extremely disappointing experience. We came as two couples expecting a nice evening, but left frustrated and feeling like we’d completely wasted our time and money. First off, the food: The £26 steak was not cooked as requested (we asked for rare and got something closer to well done). From two ordered stakes one was even totally different type and had to bring another one while others were trying to eat the present bag of …. Both pizzas (£14–16 each) were described as “stone baked,” but came out on what looked and tasted like cheap, canteen-style bases. Hardly any toppings—honestly felt like we were eating plain bread with the odd bit of cheese or meat. Service was just as bad: No table service—you have to flag someone down or wait ages to order drinks. We had to clear our own table and put away empty glasses ourselves because no staff seemed to care. No atmosphere, no attention to detail, and no sense of hospitality. For the price, we expected at least the basics: correctly cooked food, some level of service, and decent quality. Sadly, this place delivered none of that. We will not be coming back and would not recommend it to anyone. The only good thing...

Joined friends for a meal at lunch time on bank holiday Monday. Order taken. Then server came back to advise one of the kids meals couldn’t be fulfilled due to them having run out of sausages. I ordered Jumbo Cod. When my meal arrived the cod was smaller than perch I have caught out of the canal and cold. I refused the meal and was offered a menu to choose something else. The rest of the party had almost eaten by the time the server came back so I did not order anything else and didn’t eat. Children’s meals were larger than my Jumbo Cod and when the 2 kids pizza meals came out it was half a pizza and uncut. When we asked if the server could we have the pizza’s cut another served up and handed our 9 year old a disc pizza cutter to slice up the pizza’s herself. No flat surface to do this on only a normal ceramic plate that the meals came on. Pizzas were taken back to the kitchen to be cut and upon return were like cardboard on the base. We will be scratching The Beacon off our list which is a shame as it is very local and used to be amazing. It was a tell tale sign the place was empty on a Bank Holiday Monday lunch time between the hours of 12:30 - 14:30....
