Four of us went for dinner Sat 26th Nov. We had 4 starters which were very nice, the prawn Pil Pil could have done with a bit more chilli but that's purely personal taste. I do have to say that the 2 guys had the mixed grill, it was outstanding, I've never had such a large meal and the meat was just all done perfectly. The chips for one of them and the baked potato for the other had to come in separate bowls the main plate was so full. It's very difficult to get all of the different cuts of meat done properly all at the same time. In the past I've had, maybe the steak done as requested, but then the lamb, or chicken or the pork would have sat on the pass and be dry or over cooked. The chef at the Roebuck is excellent, he can be judged on the way he cooks eggs, the white was perfect with no runny bits (I do hate egg-sn*t) and the yolk was runny, what more can I say? We have been before and will definitely return for the mixed grill. The ladies had the veg lasagne and chicken melt in stilton and were just as complimentary about their meal. Very attentive staff without being a pain and all in all a very pleasant evening. I also have to add that whilst other similar establishments have hiked their prices blaming everything from COVID to the war in Ukraine the Roebuck don't seem to have profiteered and the prices were very reasonable for...
Read moreThe one star is staff related rather than food related. The staff we came in contact with were full of attitude and downright rude (except Darren, who was almost helpful), we booked our works Christmas meal here and paid our deposit for 30th Nov. after we saw their christmas menu on line and were encouraged to "book early".. on the morning of the 30th we were informed that the christmas menu doesnt actually start until 3rd Dec... oops, when we queried this with "Chef Gill" she told my wife that it was our fault for assuming, and "never in 20 years has she done Christmas fayre in November" well how were we to know, we've never been there, and their website is plastered with Christmas fayre stuff??.. anyway, when we got there it looked like Darren had tried to resolve this, and dressed the table for christmas, however the other staff seemed to think that we were an inconvenience to their day, one even snatched a menu from my wife and told her "you're not allowed that menu", "you're only allowed the Christmas Menu".. when Darren allowed one of our younger members to order a pizza this went down like a lead balloon, omg, we were now an even bigger inconvenience.. that said the food was actually nice but very disappointing that the situation they created was not handled well.. and we were made to feel very uncomfortable and...
Read moreHad lunch with the Bentley Drivers Club at this pub great meal and good company.
Ate again at the Roebuck with the Bentley Drivers Club excellent lunch and very pleasant service.
Having previously enjoyed two excellent lunches with the Bentley Drivers Club at the Roebuck, today's visit was sadly disappointing. While the company remained as enjoyable as ever, the meal itself fell far short of the standards I'd come to expect. My slice of beef and ale pie arrived devoid of vegetables, which appeared some five minutes later. However, the absence of potatoes necessitated a further wait for mashed potatoes, which, when they finally arrived, had a disconcerting, almost liquid consistency akin to instant 'Smash'. Even the Americano felt meager, only filling two-thirds of the cup. The service, too, was a stark contrast to my previous experiences, with waitresses who seemed indifferent and unhelpful. It's disheartening to report such a decline after my previously positive encounters, and on this occasion, I cannot offer the same enthusiastic...
