We are on holiday in Westhall and saw The Racehorse Inn, which is owned and run by the community. We were advised to book a table which we did. We arrived before our time to have a drink or two before we dined. It was a beautiful summer evening so we sat outside. We had a pint and a large glass of wine which cost just over £11. We went inside to a warm welcome where we were taken to our table. What I especially liked was even though it was a big area inside it wasn’t crammed with tables . We had sea bass fillet and a steak. We were a little concerned that our greeting might be a little 'Slaughtered Lamb' but could not have been further from the truth.
From the moment we walked in, we didn't feel like we were visitors to the area - a real sense of community that extends beyond those that live locally.
Great beer and great food (we had pizzas, salad and coleslaw - all of which was really, really good), plus great conversation from those behind, and in front of the bar.

There's a good select of decent local ale in tap and the staff are really attentive and very friendly. A rarity for me from a big city, where staff can be impassionate. There's a really friendly vibe.
Food is available, but not necessarily in demand, so please check before heading out to avoid disappointment, as the pub brings in outside cooks on demand and does a food run to the local fish and chippy, as examples. I like this entrepreneurial spirit, where innovation can lead to great enterprise between one business and another.
