This pub is a great find, and it turned out to be conveniently just round the corner from our holiday rental. It was our first night, so naturally we didn’t feel like cooking, and with no booking, we effectively gatecrashed their Halloween party event with everybody, turning up brilliantly dressed up in full horror fancy dress while were in civvies. Nonetheless, we received a great welcome, the excellent range of drinks was explained, and we sat down and soaked up the atmosphere. Very conscious that without a booking, we might not get served, but when we asked, they just said if we could bear with the kitchen for half an hour or so they could provide food, so we were happy to wait. Between us we had the burger, pork medallions, and the steak and ale pie. All was absolutely excellent, we really enjoyed the friendly service and the great atmosphere – really recommend anybody in this area to try the Lion.

Great pub with a large beer garden. This is a great local - a non-tied free house, it serves great beers & ciders. On my visit, there was a DJ in the garden spinning vinyl classics. Food was top quality as well. Recommended.

Tuesday 4th Oct, Curry night.

We had a table for 3x booked for 7pm. When we arrived we were told that we would need to vacate the table by 8pm, as the Framingham cribbage club will need the table. To be fair, not that we would need to leave, only that we would have to be moved to another table. Still not what you would expect when booking ahead.

We ordered a bottle of wine for the table. The wine was very nice. Sauvignon blanc, (Duna, I think it was called).

We ordered the chicken buna, mushroom stroganoff and chilli con carne.

Shortly after ordering the condiment and cutlery cradle was brought to the table. Stokes sauce's, so good quality products, but nothing in there was relevent to the meals we'd ordered? There were also two fly's floating in the vinegar.

The mushroom stroganoff was ok. Some of the larger bits of mushrooms were a bit chewy, almost like the dried mushrooms hadn't been rehydrated for long enough, but not a major issue. I didn't like that the salad served on top of the hot rice either, should be on a side plate. The garlic bread was also very soggy, and not toasted on the topside, or left covered and condensation got to it.

The chilli con carne was also ok. I was told it was quite bland and watery. The salad was served on top of the hot rice again, but the garlic bread was crisp.

The chicken buna was awful. No spice at all, it tasted like tinned tomatoes cooked with onions and a few bits of pepper. There was a sourness, like the tomatoes hadn't been cooked down long enough, and there was a bit of metal from a scouring pad in the rice.

Looking at the food online and the reviews, I didn't expect such a bad meal. I can only assume that Tuesday is the chef's night off to serve up such poor quality food? If it was just a bad cheap meal, fair enough, but the prices are too high to excuse the low quality. £15 for the curry and £14 for the stroganoff and chilli.

Avoid curry night, it wasn't good at all. Hopefully the food is better from the regular menu. A nice pub, good atmosphere and friendly staff, but I couldn't recommend as an eatery from our...

Well l have given my reviews of this establishment on a number of occasions, so this is a bit of an update.|If you haven't visited this place you are missing out.||Always a warn welcome and you can assure you that you won't be disappointed.||There have been negative views in the past although with the amount of visitors they get and a lot of customers returning time and again, by the Law of averages you are not going to please eveyone.||Reading between the lines some complaints have been a little over the top, especially when the complaints are not offered at the time. I am sure having spent more time as a customer than any where ealse, don't tell the Wife!!|I feel that l am in the position to comment on this very well run Traditional Pub, regardless of the very odd issue highlighted on Trip Adviser.||I wonder if these people would bother writeing a good review even it every thing was perfect, l am confident that had the complainent had handled the situation better everything would have been settled favourable.||I am a retired land lord with over 25 years experience. You can't always get it right and you can't please everyone, no matter how you try. |Off my pedestal now.!||This really is a great establishmen a Real Traditional Pub, not many left in this area. If any and l visit most others, again don't tell the good lady. ||Great selection of Traditional Locally Brewed Beers a large selection of beers at very reasonable prices, probably the least expensive in the area. ||Excellent every change Menu to suit all tastes all again at very reasonable prices. ||They have recently won The Coverted Rural Pub of the Year with other awards and last year CAMRA awarded them Pub of the Year. ||I am currently writing a book about my experience and including pubs that l have visited good or bad. ||Certainly The Theberton Lion will certainly get a mention in that. ||My only criticism and perhaps the Landlord will take Note. The Picture on this Trip Adviser Page is well out of Day and doesn't show the tremendous effort that you have put in to improve the Property....

Popped here for the evening as staying on holiday nearby.... Big mistake!||Was informed at the bar when ordering drinks (initially friendly approach) anyway informed it was curry night and was handed all the menus... Yes all the menus! Then land lady took back the menus and gave us the ones for just us||Anyway we were told we could sit in the restaurant area. Limited menu. We ordered samosa and bombay potatoes. Innitaly I was excited because we were informed all the food was homemade and cooked by them.... However the food was probably the worst I've ever had!!||Samosa was OK... However lacked any similarly to the Indian cuisine, we basically had filo pastry that was deep fried filled with chickpeas, tomato sauce and courgette.... Was very weird! The bombay potato literally tasted and looked like leftover roast potatoes from Sunday that was reheated in the microwave (so was very mushy) and small hint of spice.... Pretty vile!||||Onto the main... I ordered chicken korma which came with rice, poppadom and a naan (all homemade.... And my partner ordered beef madras with the same accompniments. So... Rice was microwave rice clearly overcooked and hard! And in clumps Not fluffy||Naan as hard as a table mat. Chicken korma resembled a pouch of sheeba cat meat that had been left out in the sun..... Dry! Really dry and no sauce! My partners curry was also dry... And resembled cat food!||||When the food was delivered to the table by a very young waiter I asked where the sauce in the curry was... He replied.. Nervously that's just what it's like... And disappeared... Quickly.||Deciding not to eat the meal as was unsure of nearest hospital I informed the landlady I couldn't eat it because it was so dry and the curry lacked sauce.... Any sauce and that the rice was dry... She then offered something else to be cooked I said no.||When the bill came she demanded we pay half the price of the meal we didn't eat.... Lots of arguments... Had to beg not to pay for meal not eaten! Do...
