Friday 15th October 2021 12.30 pm Ordered a Latte Coffee and an Americano from the bar person, paid, took a seat to ponder the menu. Saw coffee started on machine and heard milk expressed into a jug, bar person went serving drinks further around bar, chose sandwiches which according to menu, would be made with thick 'rustic' doorstep bread, cheddar cheese, pickle, and served with a small tomato salad, coleslaw, rocket and vegetable crisps. My friend had the same on gluten free bread without pickle! What we actually got was 2 pieces of sliced shop bought bread each (that smelled definitely musty) made with 2 small slices of cheddar (??) the kind. bought pre packed , pre very thinly sliced, processed cheese, smeared with (on mine,) a small smear of what tasted exactly like HP sauce with 2 little tiny cubes of something in it, cut into a triangle, no sign of any 'butter', accompanied by enough rocket to feed 4 (tasteless and also stuffed in the sandwich), a 'dob' of coleslaw, no sign of a tomato, but a dollop of vegetable crisps that were dry and tasteless. YES I sent it back, it came back exactly the same but transferred onto sliced bought suspect gluten free bread as delivered to my friend, and we paid £7 each for the privilege. I have yet to check on my bank statement re the cost of our coffees but they arrived just before the food, my friends fine, I had a cup of cold milk froth, with no sign of coffee, oh and we got a little biscuit in the saucer....

Slow, unfriendly manager and expensive. We had an important family get together where we wanted a nice cosy pub meal with good food. The reviews looked good on Google and reasonably close by - about 20min drive. The food section was not particularly cosy or pub like and despite saying they were dog friendly, did not allow dogs in that section. It was about half full but the food was very slow in arriving. Over an hour between ordering and appearing. The food itself was very tasty and good but very small portions of meat/fish, especially for the price charged. The plate was filled out with potatoes and lettuce or some other salady garnish - nicely presented but not worth the price charged.

The worst part was the drink incident. One member of our party - the designated driver - ordered rock-shandy (mixture of soda and lemonade with few drops of pink bitters). We described it in detail to the manager, who was a bit off hand and certainly not friendly or welcoming. But when it arrived and after drinking half of it she thought it must contain alcohol as she started to feel light headed. When she queried it at the bar they said it had gin in it!!! Manager more or less dismissed the upset and said she wouldn't charge us for the drink!! But when we came to pay the bill we had been over charged for the other drinks. Luckily our driver was still sober enough to drive us home. Would not recommend this place. Which is a shame as the setting by the canal...

One Star - because of the location is very good. But I suspect this is why the service is lamentable. Actually, thats not an adequate description. Abysmal is closer to the mark. I ordered a pint of bitter, a coke and an ice cream. The barmaid said that we had to have a table number - even though we wanted to sit on the grass ouside. This of course is for the convenience of the staff ... not the customer. So we sat at a table on the assumption that an ice cream would take only a few minutes to arrive. 45 minutes later - nothing. - and drinks drunk. So I went to the bar to enquire and I was told that the wait for food is up to one hour. Yes - one hour for an ice cream. So I asked for my money back but the barmaid said she wanted to serve some other customers first. I waited. Then she started to serve another customer, I guess in the hope the ice cream would arrive. I said ok forget the money ... you can keep it. And as my wife and I walked out the the door to leave the barmaid loudly exclaimed "How Rude"for all to hear. If you want to pay by credit card they impose a £1 surcharge if the bill is less than £10. The recommended bitter I suspect was recommended just to get rid of it. And the window cill by our table was liberally dotted...

Just back from a Sunday lunch with friends and all 8 can say is what an improvement since last time we were there. The new owners have improved it enormously. We had the roast pork, roast beef and 'Nelson' roast which is a bit of both. Portions were generous to put it mildly! Suffice to say I'm not bothering with an evening meal. Food was well presented and delicious. The decor has also been redone and feels very homely and comfortable with nice touches in the decorations dotted about the place. For those who want a challenge they do an 80 oz (yes eighty ounce!) steak which if you can finish the whole meal you get for free. Staff are friendly, efficient and courteous. Location is right next to the canal and in summer it's an incredibly pleasant place to sit and watch narrow boats going up and down the canal through the lock. All in all top marks! Just been back tonight and we both had the 12oz rump steak. Have to say it was the equal of any steak I've had anywhere. Superb.

Wow! What a hidden gem. Went here for food and an afternoon of drinking with my best friend. For food, we had the Camembert and battered pigs in blankets (don’t knock it until you try it- a delicious idea!). We shared the steak king carne. The fillet was the best I had ever tasted. Service was brilliant- attentive but left us to it. Super friendly! We then went to the bar for a few drinks and then had the sticky toffee a few hours later. Locals were welcoming and chatty. A great atmosphere. Would highly recommend and will be coming back soon to taste more off the menu!
