We are away for the weekend in Castle Cary having a bit of a break from city life and sucking in as much of that lovely fresh air as possible!! 🏞 We were recommended the Alhampton Inn and booked in for lunch earlier today. The pub itself is an absolute beaut, recently expanded during Covid and it’s looking fantastic for it!! The two gents we met running the place were brilliant - friendly, informative and just genuinely good people, they really made you feel welcome! Then the food… absolutely banging!! Everything we had was delicious, with that Haddock Smokey stealing the show - when was a pot of cheesy fish with crumble on top not gonna be amazing!! 😍😍 Our fave things: It’s a toss up between the great service and that banging Smokey!! 🐟

Found myself standing outside wondering how on earth I get into the place? Not very clear, found a door and hoped for the best. Very friendly staff and we were welcomed as soon as we walked in. Food was lovely and a good selection of veg. We had the carvery which is plated up rather than you going up to get it and choosing you own. Great selection of puddings and all very appetising. Word to the wise though:- when you pay your bill you will see on there they charge you optional gratuity(tip) @10%, there is nothing optional about it. First thing you know about it is when you check your bill. Would be nice to be told about it.

This amazing pub has been bought by the local community in an astonishing project led by the villagers. They have recently been able to get the kitchen open too and are continuing with the mix of pop up food and now Sunday Roasts. We had a really warm welcome. Lovely open fires in both bars. Plenty of wines and low/no alcohol choices as well. There was also a party going on upstairs. They have lots of development plans as well I'm told. A place to keep an eye on for sure.

Such a lovely pub, unpretentious and friendly with the best vegetarian Sunday lunch ever! The Yorkshire pudding was totally delicious as was the nut roast; not your usual Paxo stuffing masquerading as not roast but a gorgeous umame filled, pine nut delicious nut roast! Extra gravy and cauliflower cheese, carrots and the greenest fresh greens! Top veggie tucker! We'll be back. 10th October 2021 Went back for Sunday lunch and again The Alhampton did not disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious. We had the vegetarian option with roast potatoes, greens, red cabbage and honey roast carrots with creamy leek crumble and a wild mushroom and spinach cheesy bake topped with veggie gravy. Bloody gorgeous! The pub had been renovated and the outside space is really wonderful. A very large covered area and tables dotted about the garden too. It is, in my opinion as a vegetarian that usually leaves eateries disappointed, one of the best pubs in the South West. Go and try it. Great staff, warm and friendly, and a beautiful old pub, serving hospitality and great food. Dog and child friendly too. What's...

This pub is in a pleasant small rural village setting with an adequate car park. It is basic in its facilities and is in need of upgrading. The equipment eg tables, chairs and cutlery are in need of replacement. The pub was very busy on Sunday lunchtime making it difficult for the staff to attend promptly to everyone. However they did their best and the food was good with large portion size. Prices were reasonable both for food and drink. It was very cold even though it was a sunny autumn day. There was a strong draught partly from the kitchen and partly from upstairs where windows were open possibly due to the fact that decorating was taking place. There was no fire alight even though an available...
