Where to start - the room had a moving/broken toilet seat/ the main overhead shower didn’t work, just the smaller shower head, lower down. The plumbing banged loudly when being used. There was a bare wire on the socket underneath the radiator in the bathroom. I’m not sure the room has been cleaned properly as a welcome card to the previous guest was left on the dresser. As we had only realised about the toilet seat and not the rest of the damage, when first arriving, I spoke to the receptionist who said they couldn’t move us. Went to carry on our 1 night stay with a meal in the bar. We booked due to the menu choices seen on the menu online. Over half the menu was unavailable. No steaks, no fish told by the waitress to order a platter which was the only thing we might have enjoyed. I complained to the manager and was told I was not being served anymore drinks. A platter which we didn’t order arrived ???? We spent Ā£60 on taxis going to the nearest town for a meal and to try and make the best of a terrible trip away.

A very nice hotel and pub. We had to have an emergency over night stop here with work. It was busy but the receptionist, who was also the head waitress, bar maid and maƮtre d, managed to find some room for us. The food in the pub was nice, though they had run out of what I wanted. Not a big deal as I was grateful they could feed us so late. The only down side was the garlic bread. It was soft. It was fresh but it had no crunch to it. The texture was just bizarre lol. If I ever need an emergency stop over again I'll be sure to stop here if I'm in the area.

Visited just after Christmas. It was very cosy and nicely decorated. A nice atmosphere. Took a friend from Brazil to show her a traditional country pub. She loved it. She didn't enjoy her food so much as her steak was tough and her red wine was acrid as it had been open too long. I would have sent it back but she didn't realise it was 'off ' until I tried it before we left. I had the Shepherds pie which had a whole lamb shank in it and was lovely, even though their wasn't much meat on it I enjoyed it. My lime soda was very nice.

We stayed at the Berkshire Arms for a nearby wedding. The rooms are big and very clean with thoughtful little touches like chocolates waiting for you. We asked for a cot in the room and this was already set up on arrival. It was quiet and we had a really comfortable stay. Check in was great with a lovely guy on the check in desk (he was also the kind waiter I mention below)

We didn’t have breakfast included but thought we’d stop in the pub for it before the long car journey home - in hindsight, I wish we’d stopped somewhere else on the way! There were 2 men serving and 1 was absolutely lovely but the other had such an attitude problem it made for such an uncomfortable atmosphere. When he came to take our order there were niceties or even eye contact. I ask to change my toddlers order slightly from the menu and was left with silence while he tapped away on the iPad and no confirmation was given that he’d heard me just a look around the table as if to say ā€˜anything else’ but not actually saying it? A couple was seated next to us shortly afterwards and the difference in how he was with them was mad!! Friendly, apologetic for the wait as it was busy etc - not sure if he has an issue with kids dining there? He was refilling the continental later so I stood waiting at a distance as didn’t want to be rude and reach around him for things and he actually turned around and said ā€˜are you okay?’ Even if he was being genuine, which it didn’t sound like he was, by that point he’d made a bad impression. My toddler didn’t really want to eat so my husband took her off to play outside while I finished breakfast and when the bill came I had been charged for 2 continental breakfasts and her pancakes. I questioned why 2 continental (as my husband didn’t eat) and the nice waiter confirmed it was my toddler but he would go and check with the rude waiter. When he came back he said ā€˜yes he’s charged that with your toddlers meal’. So I paid for her pancakes and a continental breakfast for her even though I assumed when ordering her pancakes that would be what I was paying for soley? I didn’t have the energy to argue and this man had been lovely to us so I paid but it’s left a bit of a bitter taste to our experience. I don’t know if you get charged for continental no matter what you have from the menu (if this is the case this wasn’t explained as he didn’t talk to us much at all), or whether he added a continental breakfast to my daughters tab because he saw me give her some of my orange and a bite of my toast? (Anyone with toddlers know that whatever you have they want!). Either way, I would stay here again but would definitely dine somewhere else if he...

went today for a early Mother’s Day lunch out with 3 other guests. we got there and ordered 3 mock tails from the menu, clearly pointing out to the bartender what we would like. these mock tails were for a 16 year old, a pregnant woman and someone who was driving and didn’t want alcohol. However, until we got the bill, which we had issues with due to the food that was served for us, which I’ll get to further more into this review, we were told that these mock tails, that we ordered had alcohol in them. the bartender was very confused and we let them know that they just served a pregnant woman alcohol and served an under age 16 year old girl alcohol. We were extremely unhappy and uncomfortable with this due to the dangers of giving alcohol to a pregnant woman and 16 year old as well as someone who is driving, as we asked for mock tails which did NOT contain alcohol. we got no apologies, just gaslight as the bartender said that we pointed to the cocktail page as we were telling him our drink order, however, we were not, as we even said we would like 3 MOCK tails! this is very dangerous and should not be tolerated, if this was to happen to someone who has a allergy, then it would of been a much more dangerous situation. Luckily no one had an allergy or medical issue, however they pregnant woman was very upset and did not get an apology of any kind. With the food, we ordered a beef burger meal and fish and chips meal, as well as a sharing platter of 2. The two meals were okay, nothing to complain about that, however the sharing platter could not serve two, more like one. The food was not up to standard and clearly was frozen before cooked. the bread that was brought out was rock hard, and the manager blamed it on the sun, which couldn’t of been to blame, due to us being under shade in a cooler area. Myself and one of the guests went to talk to the manager to see if he could help us. the manager was blank out rude and very sensitive and could not take any constructive criticism. he clearly forgot the rule of ā€œcustomers are always rightā€ and he stood there arguing and making excuses. As well as that, he called myself and the other guest bullies for coming to talk to him, which was ridiculous and so we left, since we were not going to waste our time on a place that gives underage people alcohol and pregnant women alcohol, without us ordering it. shame on this pub. something should be...

On Sunday 25/11/2018 15.20 hrs. The service in the restaurant could not be described as 'terrible'. It was FAR worse than that! We had pre booked, but it took a long time for us to be seated, and be given menus, even though there were lots of empty tables. The two waiters kept disappearing for long periods. The only time we were asked if everything was alright was one minute after the main courses had been delivered. My plate with a mixed grill was cold, heated only by the lukewarm food. There was nobody available to complain to. Nobody came to check if we had finished our main course. Later in the afternoon, two or three younger, black uniformed, waiters appeared in the distance, and were briefly clearing plates in another section. After waiting for forty minutes, one of our party asked one of them to clear our table. She took two plates away Then we waited over forty minutes for a sweet menu. Customers on a neighbouring table, noting the lack of service, commented that they had a similar experience the last time they ate there. £2.70 for a small glass of 'Coke' and £2.60 for a small glass of lemonade, both of which they called 'regular', was ridiculously overpriced compared to a half pint of shandy charged at £1.95. Some items we ordered were not delivered and some not available, but were charged for. I think that somebody else must have had the gin that was listed as being a constituent in my Gin and Berry Mess. After another long wait, we asked Tracey, one of the waitresses, who was serving at the bar, if we could pay our bill. There was a further delay before she brought a card machine. I had to ask her for a copy of the bill. Not a pleasant experience. If we had walked out without paying, I doubt that anybody would have noticed. As a final insult, as we were leaving, in the car park, we saw and heard, a driver reverse into my new car, then park some distance away, and walk quickly past me looking the other way. When I checked my car, the rear bumper was badly scuffed, but his rear offside chrome embellishment had more damage. I noted the details of his car, but claims of this nature are not worth persueing, as we would both have our insurance premiums increased. We will not be returning to this poorly run...
