What an amazing little place the Birch hall inn is .it was very small but beautiful ,it has a large beer garden with many tables we were greeted by two very cute Robin's bobbing along and keeping us company . We went on a rainy day but some of my family have been before and said it gets packed out . It is in Beck hole near Whitby which is a beautiful place with a gorgeous stream or beck as it is known in Yorkshire running past the pub , which in summer gets busy with children paddling in the beck . The Birch hall inn is a unique little pub with two small bars serving local ale and it has a sweet shop in the bar , yes I did say a sweet shop brilliant place , they also serve food such as pork pie and pickle, or buttered fruit bread with the fruit soaked in beer ,and various other unique and different foods not a huge selection but definitely worth a try and very reasonably priced . The lady and gentlemen who I assume own the pub were absolutely lovely, helpful ,kind and cheerful. They made our visit complete . Oh just to say it is a cash only establishment sweet to see in these days of plastic cards and phone payments so don't get caught out or you will miss out on this absolute little treasure...

We were also with a large party who had all purchased drinks (at an estimate he probably made nigh on £100 from us all,) yet this was not enough to satisfy this incredibly grumpy man along with his grima worm tongue like companion. I will not be returning and if you like me have kids and carry their snacks with you I really wouldn't bother. Wait till grosmont or goathland to purchase the grownups...

It's famed double room entrance and serving "hatch" are what most people go for, but that detracts from the brilliantly kept real ale and local pork pies which are the real stars of the show. We found the service to be very friendly, with the landlady being very sweet to my 5 year old daughter, and we sat and chatted to the locals. The only question is whether to sit inside one of the quaint rooms, or outside in the incredible beer garden. As other have said, be sure to check opening times, and make the most of your trip by taking one of the local...
