Now ran by the same team behind The Travellers Rest at Witton Gilbert, it's hard to fault either the service or the food. The Korean Pork is a stunning little dish, the burgers are juicy, and the Sunday lunch is fantastic value for money. Possibly the best crackling in the NE. Yes, you'll pay slightly more than other pubs yet it's worth it. Not massive changed inside from its days as The Toronto Lodge, the only real area that needs improved is the toilets. The 'industrial' farm feel is dated and the tap is terrible. Not enough to knock a star off for though. Recommended and it's our go-to restaurant if we can't be bothered to cook.

First time here and will probably go back. I had the Sunday lunch and crumble. The Pork was lovely but the crackling was a little underdone and rubbery so left it, Shame as the pork was lovely, the only small negative was I had some cauliflower which tasted of fish (normally when it's going off) I mentioned it but doubt it was passed over to anyone.. or that maybe the reason they took forever with the deserts, apart from that it was nice. Yorkshire's were better than mine and that takes some doing. Ordering the desert was a tad frustrating it took about 20 mins from telling them we wanted it for them to come back with a menu.

Nice selection of food on the menu, and fantastic quality based on what we ate (garlic mushrooms, chilli king prawns, shellfish linguine and pork belly). As you would expect, it can get busy on a weekend but the service was still very good. We came to relax, not rush through our food anyway. Will definitely be going back to try out some more of the menu, hopefully without the car so we can get the cocktails. The Bishop's Devil looked lethal !!!

After previously having a great meal for my Husbands birthday we thought we would go again!

We called prior to see if they had availability and let us book a table, when we arrived they didn’t have our booking - however the lady found a table and had us seated within minutes.

We both opted the for Beef Sunday Dinner (which I had tried before), as soon as the plates were placed on the table you could simply see the Beef on top with more fat than meat. We tried to salvage as much as possible but the parts editable was extremely chewy, to which we simply left the meat and ate the rest of the meal.

At not one point during the meal did any member of staff come to check on us, a young waitress simply approached the table and said are you finished and took our plates.

We were not asked if the meal was ok or offered a desert menu. A while later the manager approached and asked if we wanted a desert menu, to which we said yes, it was brought to our table and left which no mention of the cheesecake of the day.

We eventually got the attention of the same young waitress to ask the cheesecake and simply advised ‘mini eggs’ and left - we had been sat already at least 10 minutes with the menus. By the time the waiter came and asked if we wanted desserts, to much time had passed and we’d had enough.

We asked for the bill which was brought to our table, when the waiter placed the bill down he simply said ‘do you want the card machine’ , he came back to process the payment - with no conversation and again no questions if everything was ok.

On leaving we asked for the managers email or the process to complain and were advised to just leave reviews!

Unfortunately it was a bad experience from start to finish, big let down...

My wife and I booked a table at the Toronto Lodge last week, the second time we had been there for a meal. Our first visit a couple of months ago was spoiled by really bad table service but we quite like the place so thought we would try it again. Unfortunately our waiter was hopeless, clearly had no training on how to greet guests and welcome visitors to the restaurant. On being seated ay our table, he plonked a pile of menus in front of us, neglecting to explain what was on offer for the evening or make any suggestions about the food choices available. Instead, he asked us for our drinks order before going to the bar to order our drinks.

After reading through the pile of menus, (the lunch menu was on the top of the pile and this was 7:00 pm) we noticed that one of the specials that evening included a bottle of wine in the price of a meal! I signalled to our waiter and asked if we could cancel our drink order and have the bottle of wine instead, suggesting that it would have been nice to have the options explained first. Later, we were informed that the beers we had ordered had been poured and it was too late to cancel the drinks. A female waitress did intervene and suggested we take the 3 item sharing plate as a starter as this was very good value.

The meals arrived and mine was just OK but my wife's main course of ribs was very dry and largely burnt. Our table for two was by a glass door which caused a cold draught around our legs during our meal.

This is quite a nice place only a few miles from our home but it will be a long time before we take a chance on the Toronto Lodge again due to our second...

The service was ok the staff just seemed to float around a little. like headless chickens.

The food however was very disappointing. The soup was very salty and considering this was being given to children I thought that the chefs would have checked the salt level better. the starters were not was you expected at all, the chicken wings were soft and soggy there was no sign of a crispy skin and this is supposed to be a bbq restaurant l, the bbq ribs were more fat that meat, the prawn cocktail was a bed of rocket with a few prawns there was nothing to accompany them. ie bread.

The main course, My partner ordered fish pie which seemed to be ok however the mashed potato that was served with it was brown and looked about three days old, my daughters burger was boring, there was no salad given no sauce on it nothing and there was no option for this. ( even McDonalds gives sauce and onions on there burgers). My burger was ok the meat was very hard on the outside but soft in the middle. The bun should have been toasted as when I bit into it the bun just flaked into nothing. The chips were scabby little things if you are going to provide home made double dipped chips they need to be much thicker.

Over all I thought the experience was poor and a lot could have...
