I would like to leave you two comments, one for Wednesday night 23rd April and one Thursday night 24th April.
As we were staying at Naburn lock campsite we thought we would try the village pub (Blacksmiths Arms). As we entered the pub we were greeted by Martin and were made to feel very welcome so decided to eat there, Martin took the order of five main meals and we ordered a second round of drinks. The meal arrived and we enjoyed it and struck up a conversation with Martin who informed us of the entertainment you had booked for the 24th and suggested we went. He said it would be quite busy and to arrive early so we made to do that, as we left the chef asked if we had enjoyed our meals. We did not get his name but would like to thank him as well as Martin for the warm welcome they both gave our party.
24th April We entered the Blacksmiths arms 7.30 as we wanted to eat early and as i'm disabled my wife found a table for me and went to the bar where our friends were ordering the first round of drinks. My wife just happened to mention where we were sitting only to be rudely spoke over by the man serving our friends telling her we could not sit there. My wife and our friends were shocked at how they were spoken to and a little taken off guard, so my wife suggested we move to a table near the door that had just been vacated only to be interrupted rudely by the man behind the bar that this was not possible has it needed cleaning, My wife informed him that i could not stand for long but was told to stay near the bar until it was cleared. Never once was this man polite and tried to make us welcome, My wife worked as a licence for a large hotel and ran 5 bars at once and made sure customer service was upmost, a skill this man did not posses. The job seams to be to stressful for this employee named Ian and would suggest he works behind the seance our takes another career option before he turns away more valuable customers. We left after our first drinks and shall not be returning, we will be visiting Naburn lock over the summer as we had such a good time there. We ate across the river at a local pub to acaster malbis where we were made to feel at home.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreLousy food lousy service rude staff This pub has gone right down the pan in recent years. Itās one of those pubs you keep trying and wish it would be nice but never is. Me and friend visited this pub on Friday lunch at peak time there was only one other table taken which is never a good sign but we ordered our food Fish and chips twice at Ā£11.95 or a half portion cheaper but we went for 2 full portions and was told it was 2 for 1 Friday (bonus) until the food came and the 1/2 portion came so was it 2 for 1 or 1 for 2 the lady came over and she agreed it wasnāt right and offered to swap but we genuinely thought weād been conned on purpose The food came back again with a small but full fish and the same chips the chef had re fried the already well fried chips and now they were inedible the bread and butter was also stale. You know what itās like when you have already complained once you donāt want to complain again so we endeavoured to eat our food leaving the chips and bread. After finishing what was supposed to be a nice meal out for me and my friend and feeling that disappointed way you feel when you have had a wasted and bad experience we called the girl over to tell her in strong words of our disgust only to find an empty and denial attitude I wouldnāt have give her a job looking after my hamster let alone running a pub. Thereās normally a guy there who I think is the landlord who seems to do the work of 3 people but he wasnāt there there was three staff just stood near the bar all on there mobile phones. I am not a moaner I hate moaning but sometimes you just need to and thatās why this site is hear so others donāt have to suffer the same experience. I would give this pub a serious miss I have seen some good reviews on here and some really bad ones my veiw is why take a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe walked from our home south of the city out to Naburn to visit the Tea Rooms at Naburn Lock. Disappointed to discover that the local big house (Naburn Hall?) blocked public access to the Ings from the village, necessitating a half-mile walk along a lane along which cars drive too fast for the conditions. Fortunately, we found a route from the end of the village (right at the very end of the footpath) which took us criss-crossing across British Waterways land straight to the Tea Rooms, not strictly legal but with no apparent disruption to the running of the lock. Unfortunately, contrary to the live information on Google the venue had closed for a kitchen refurbishment. Walking back towards Naburn it was hard to tell from Google if the Blacksmith's Arms in the village had re-opened after its most recent closure - bit of a checkered career of late - but fortunately it had and, despite the hour being just past two pm they were still serving food (O joy!). We weren't out for a full meal so I chose fish finger sandwich whilst my wife had a halloumi dish, we also shared a plate of chips. The food, served quickly and hot, was very good and reasonably-priced. In particular and, unusually in my experience for pub meals such as this, the salad which came with my meal was very good - substantial with a good mix of ingredients and a very tasty dressing. My meal also included a small serving of skin-on chips which, again, were some of the best I've had with a pub meal and with everything washed-down by a pint of Hobgoblin IPA we felt very satisfied and grateful for our visit. We both felt that the experience was very enjoyable in this tastefully refurbished pub with friendly and efficient service and a pleasant ambiance. We'll...
