So disappointed. Previous visits have always been exceptional. Today might just be a blip (we all have an off day). Before you ask… no I didn’t complain to staff while we were there due to the reasons that will become apparent in my review. There was a large queue of people at the bar and only one front of house bar member. She was busy but really polite and helpful. We were pleased that we were able to bring our bulldog inside as it was a humid day and she was struggling with the heat. Dog treats were on the bar which was a really nice touch. The overall aesthetic and atmosphere of the bar area was really relaxing and welcoming and our pooch definitely appreciated the cool flagstone floors that cooled her down. Unfortunately we chose to sit directly opposite the kitchen door which is also where dirty glass wear is placed prior to washing. On arrival there were some 20 glasses which became a veritable Mount Kilimanjaro of dirty vessels by the end of our visit. This unfortunately made the bar area look unkempt as at no time during our visit was this mountainous mound even acknowledged or attempted to be tackled. As an ex bartender I even felt sorry for the person that would eventually need to tackle this tower and not have it become a massive game of “Jenga”.
There was a steady stream of customers at the bar but we only waited a short time to place our orders. There was a table of 5 inside, a table of 2 and ourselves inside. Outside there were approximately 5 tables occupied and it wasn’t what I would call busy.
All good so far under the circumstances. Sorry but this is where our experience goes downhill. Cheesy garlic bread =small like a kids pizza base from Asda but acceptable for a starter. ✅ Chicken liver parfait was nice but the crispy bread was really really hard to the point of hurting your gums which made eating it difficult, However it was still a nice tasty starter ✅ My brother ordered fillet steak, that I had personally recommended from previous visits, cooked well done however when it arrived it was really well done and had lost all of its juices. I know how hard it is to cook a steak well done but this was almost powdery in texture. Myself and my 9 year old daughter ordered ½ parmo. They were really tasty but unfortunately again they were overcooked to the point of being dry and difficult to cut into the bottom underside. The overall appearance didn’t seem as if they had been burnt while being cooked but rather placed on a hot surface before serving to keep warm. Luckily we had our dog with us that was more than willing to eat the leftover meat as her taste is not as discerning as most patrons. Perhaps the chef would have recognised that there was a problem with our meal if our dog hadn’t assisted to consume the evidence. As stated at the start of this review I feel nervous when complaining to someone directly, we were pressed for time and paid in full (including the 10% gratuity) without question. I feel that unfortunately on this occasion we left disappointed and I was embarrassed to take a family member that was visiting us from Australia to somewhere to eat that I personally recommended to have food that was over cooked, over priced and under par. £86 for 2 starters 3 mains and 3 soft drinks. Sorry again about the review but it’s a fab place with really friendly girl front of house but the food was not on par and further staff pot washing glass collecting would elevate the whole client experience with food being personally checked if it has been “kept warm” before service. You’re better than...
Read moreBeen meaning to go this place a while as over the years I have eaten in all the places in that area but there. Location and setting is really really nice one of the better ones nice little out side play are for kids up to age of 10 I would say. Got loads of benches out side which is nice especially when the sun is out which is why we went there on a nice sunny day, BUT the service was really poor. Really poor one of worst I've had in a long time. It was busy but still no excuse as that's what that place should be of that calibre, we got there and got told to find our own table out side and they gave us a magic spoon with number on and order on your phone, cool, but massive mistake they made was the table we went to was covered in crums and stains of previous customers so these workers are sending you to table they don't even know were cleaned or not. So after a good 10mins faffing on we orderd the bill total came to £80 roughly for 2 people with a good tip in that for they service. So I asked couple of girls about cleaning table as didn't fancy eating for £80 on a table full of left overs and sticky red patches of some food anyways we got told if we wanted it cleaning we had to stand out the way for 5 minutes while it was cleaned or sit at another table asif it was a massive operation 🤣 and they were really blunt, so I said fine we moved while they cleaned it the girl come and was there no more then 30 seconds and still left the big sticky patch right on table and gave it the worst clean ever. So went back sat down the starter came with no cutlery had to walk all the way back in to get some which I think was a tired mistake by waiter as was a hog day and alot of walking back and forth for the workers, so I told the girl what happened she asked who it was who cleaned it before and apologised and gave it a good scrub so was i okay after that. The food wasn't the best for the prices they are similar to what others are charging but the steaks didn't do it for me considering what you can get out there for same price. But is a nice place won't be going...
Read moreNice country pub – I’d been wanting to visit for a long time, and finally made the plunge. On arrival, it had a lovely warm atmosphere, and service at the bar was friendly and quick – great first impression.
We visited on a Sunday. I ordered the Roast Lamb dinner, and my girlfriend had the Vegetarian Lasagne.
The lamb was... okay. It came as three thin slices from what was described as the “leg of lamb.” The veg, unfortunately, had been left boiling/simmering so long that it was almost opaque – definitely overdone. The gravy had a starchy taste, as if too much potato water had been used to thicken it – left a distinct aftertaste that wasn’t pleasant.
The Vegetarian Lasagne was served without the advertised coleslaw. We weren’t informed until the food arrived, which was disappointing. To make things worse, when we queried it, they tried to charge us extra for a sauce instead!
Then, without checking if everything was okay, they added a 10% service charge to the bill. That didn’t sit right, especially considering the issues.
Overall, it was a bit of a let-down – maybe just an off day? Ironically, we spotted the chef outside taking photos of the roast dinners, where the veg looked fresh and al dente. Hindsight, eh?
On the bright side – the Yorkshire...
