I don’t normally leave a review however after my recent experience I feel I have to.

Myself my wife and pet dog visited this beautiful castle restaurant.

I telephoned at 1700hrs on Thursday 27th March 2025.

We arrived at 1900hrs all excited and looking forward to a wonderful meal however things started to turn sour when we arrived.

Unfortunately this is what happened.

When we walked in to the restaurant we were not welcomed and greeted. I walked up to the member of staff and informed her that we booked a table for two her reply was I’m afraid we haven’t got you down for a table she then proceeded to show us a table.

When we sat down we where given a menu no wine menu and we asked if we could have a glass of wine the waitress went away and bought us a bottle of wine which we refused then she bought two glasses and then we ordered our meal which was a starter and two 10lb stakes one medium and the other well done.

After a short while we got the starter and two steaks.

On inspection of the food one steak was rare which was mine and the other was rare to medium.

We didn’t want to make a fuss so we started to eat them I got half way through the steak and couldn’t finish it. My wife had two attempts and felt sick so she couldn’t eat hers we gave the remains to the dog.

That was our experience with the service and presentation unfortunately whilst we were eating the locals were packing out the restaurant as there was a quiz night.

We were interrupted twice while we eating by the quiz master asking if we were enjoying our meal.

My wife being disabled with no where to move as we were squashed into the corner it was loud and an unacceptable experience.

We both finished our meal and couldn’t wait to get out of there away from the drunken locals.

We paid our bill which was a bit sickening as start to finish was an unacceptable experience.

I would recommend people take note of this review and think...

Myself and my partner stayed in our campervan in the rear car park of the pub after a very busy day doing part of our Nland250 tour. We came across blenkinsopp Castle Inn via a campervan Facebook group and after seeing how many people rated this place we thought we would give it a try. Well let me tell you, from start to finish this has to be one of the best pub stop overs we have ever done. The owners where very welcoming, polite and professional, the food was absolutely insane, that good on the evening that we had to book for breakfast in the morning too!!! (all cooked fresh) Harry who was working the bar was extremely professional, polite and also very welcoming.

The decor of this pub is beautiful (all done by the owners) with a beautiful open fire 🔥

The locals are all very friendly and welcoming into the pub, one of the locals organises bingo & quiz nights in the pub, we actually got involved in the quiz night and it was extremely fun! Felt like we actually made some very good friends!

The history of this pub is also insane! Definitely read up on this.

All round we had a perfect stay and was so pleased to find this hidden gem! We have added it onto our Park4night camping app to share with others how beautiful this place really is.

We will be back very...

We stayed overnight at the inn. Don’t! The hotel is adjacent to a retirement trailer park and the hotel car park serves as an overnight stop for motor homes. At 10 degrees outside temperature the heating was not working. The room was airless without any windows. For any ventilation the door to the car park had to stay open. The room stank of cheap cleaning products, stuffy, stale, cold air. The kitsch decor is a matter of taste. Basic comfort though is necessary, especially if the charge per person per night is over $300!!!!. A thin cotton cover was the only bedding provided on the hard bed. To survive the cold I ended up sleeping dressed in 2 jumpers, and woollen leggings, and in desperation used the blanket supplied for dogs sleeping on the bed! The room lights up at night with a large green EXIT sign, which can’t be turned off. Every wall is covered in “don’t do… “ stickers. The bathroom sink missed the drain, the plastic shower cubicle had no handles to actually open the door, and a step in the middle of the bathroom caused me to fall twice during the night. The lady at reception for checkin was as scary as the place itself. The breakfast was good, but we did not sleep a wink. It was a memorable experience, but for all the...

We are so glad we chose this place for our overnight stop for the drive between Wales and Scotland. The original castle was built in the 1300s, and was restored in the 1800s as a mansion. A fire ravaged it in the 1950s, and it was rebuilt into the inn that it is today, incorporating some of the original castle structure. The guest rooms are small, but modern, but the best part of this place so far is the pub. It's a popular spot for the locals, and we found ourselves to be most welcome guests, spending the evening enjoying good food, drink, and company before we turned in for the night. We chose this place simply due to its proximity to the ruins of Birdoswald Roman Fort and the adjacent sections of Hadrian's Wall. We certainly chose well. This will be one of the more memorable evenings of this vacation (our honeymoon).

Overnight stop from Scotland on way back to London. Excellent night's sleep. Massive breakfast- apparently necessary to aid walkers along Hadrians Wall ... I should have mentioned I am driving. There seems to be a system for walkers to get their luggage moved between local B&Bs/hotels. Great idea and exceptionally friendly folk here. We also had dinner last night. Best to reserve - and appreciated the call from proprietor asking if we wanted to reserve. I had a 10Oz ribeye - normally I can cook steak better than most places. I had to shake the lady chef (chefette?) Hand - superbly cooked steak. I had medium rare and she manged to get that crust on the outside and pink inside. Well seasoned and an excellent dining experience. Thanks for letting us stay at your establishment.
