FABULOUS & DELICIOUS. Anita took all the catering cares away from my shoulders for a 7 day retreat that I ran in May 2021. The catering is VITAL to me to ensure a successful retreat, and is not something that I have the time, energy, or wherewithal to undertake myself. I'd never tried Anita's cooking before I booked her (I live in London and Covid restrictions meant I couldn't do a trip to check) but she'd been recommended by the local tourist information as one of my options and on the phone and with the sample menu she sent me I felt like I was in good hands. I run the retreat as vegetarian and we had people with gluten and dairy intolerances - none of which phased Anita at all, we still had a fabulous, varied, heart-warming and healthy variety of meals with attention to detail and 'the trimmings' that meant everyone felt included. We were delighted - every meal was tasty and wholesome and made my attendees very happy. The homemade crumpets and cakes kept our need for comfort well satisfied and the main meals were well thought out, nutritious and delicious - and plentiful too (there's nothing worse than doing big emotional cleansing work and then being left hungry after meals - this was never a problem!) These photos don't really do Anita's food justice - I will do better next time I run the retreat - and have requested her for next year already. PS - I also popped to the cafe on my way out of town and tried one of their meaty pasties ..... I'll be going back for more of that too!

Be warned - this place will cause you distress when you realise that everything on the menu is mouthwatering and you can’t possibly order it all! Fabulous sweet and savoury scones and crumpets (the warm apple scones are particularly recommended) plus a wonderful selection of teas. Heartily recommended in a village that has no shortage of cracking cafe options.

Lovely place very olde worlde. We were able to access with wheelchair easily as we had phoned before had a table with easy access. Kitchen area and all food preparation done in full view always a good sign. Table full of goodies and home made cakes on cake stands.

I had a toasted cheese sandwich with cheese and onion chutney absolutely wonderful. With salad, coleslaw homemade and crisps. My boyfriend had cheese sandwich with all additions.. He also had coffee and coffee and walnut cake. I had two lots of tea and a fruit scone with jam and cream lovely all beautifully presented with cups and saucers jugs etc. Under thirty pounds for everything bargain. Beautiful tasty freshly prepared food. Quite small I side so best to book....

A huge thank you to Anita at Bramdowns (formally Mrs Jackson's) for going above and beyond with her customer service this week. I live in Australia and rang to order a birthday treat for my Dad. Anita not only delivered free of charge to his door, even though he lives 5 miles away, she also included a birthday card for him at no additional cost. Very kind and very well appreciated by my Dad and I. He was born and raised in Porlock and frequents the tea rooms often. He always arranges an afternoon tea for us, when I am in UK. Looking forward to my next visit once Covid...
