Our local. A quaint, well preserved historic building set in the countryside, good parking spaces and a beer garden with a lovely view beyond the car park. It is on a main 'A' road 2 miles from Macclesfield, heading towards Prestbury (directional Stockport/Manchester) so is easy to find (care needed esp with kiddies when exiting due to busy traffic) but you're unaware of any traffic noise once inside. Consistently good service and food but unfortunately we had a bad experience in Oct 2019 although it was addressed later. Welcoming, lovely ambience with tasteful decor and attractive lighting (decent loos are a benchmark of the company's approach to customers' overall experience in my view lol. I know I'm not the only one with similar thoughts). Staff are well trained - diligent and courteous. Never a hurried affair, you dont feel rushed so allow plenty of waiting time. From ordering food to it being served is rather slow. You can't fit in a sandwich during a lunch break from work but to be fair it's not a fast food operation. Plenty of choice and fairly priced, albeit the standard fayre of a chain restaurant (they don't pretend to be anything else) but a specials board keeps you interested and the meal deals can be excellent value. In our experience food has always been well prepared and presented, for instance the delicious pate starter is served in a trendy mini kilner jar, and our rare steaks have been cooked to perfection every time. Great chunky chips! : ) Generous portions and can never fit in a dessert. All highly recommended. Unfortunately this visit was marred by being seated beside workmens' tools on the floor and with jarring drilling and banging of maintenance or renovation work being carried out. We couldnt hear ourselves speak. You would expect the affected section to be closed and work stopped during peak periods. We appreciate it is difficult to do so but it ought to be scheduled for a 'quieter' time of the day. Not the workmen's fault but i was unacceptable of management to expect patrons to endure such noise levels of that nature throughout the meal. After all, the food industry is about customer experience. Profits before customer comfort? We, and others, had to move ourselves between courses when we saw tables become free - none of the waiting on staff looked out to offer to move us at the 1st opportunity. Despite an apology when they saw us clearing the table, it was a bit late and there wasn't even the gesture of a complimentary soft drink to compensate for the poor experience. It was disapointing and frankly, it let them down. RECTIFICATION: Subsequent to the above the Manager contacted us via the review. Pleased to add an apology was offered unreservedly and the opportunity to revisit under better circumstances to allow the establishment to rectify the situation. We appreciated the gesture, an altogether good customer experience which deserves to...
Read moreMy partner and I decided to have Christmas dinner at the here on a whim. To summarise our Christmas at the Butley Ash: Great food, horrendous service.
I could not fault the starter, main and dessert at all. It was all lovely. However, from start to finish, the service was a complete disaster. When the main came, the waitress was clearly in a hurry and put the jug of gravy aggressively on our table and it went all over. The gravy also went all over my legs. Luckily, I had long boots on, otherwise it probably would have burnt me. The waitress said it was her fault. Accidents happen, it’s not a problem, however, it’s how you try to resolve the problem! No effort was made to clear our table or replace our table cloth. Our table was left in a right state for the rest of the evening. I also asked for some cranberry sauce with my turkey, and they gave me the world’s smallest pot of sauce!
Secondly, we were left with cutlery, cups, and plates from the starter and main which took ages to be cleared up. The waitresses walked past us multiple times and failed to ‘notice’. I don’t understand why it took them so long to clear our table. The pub wasn’t exactly THAT busy when we were there!
Our dessert took over 45 minutes to arrive, and the family next to us also waited a ridiculously long time, for both their main and dessert! And we noticed when their dessert did finally arrive, it was wrong. The waitress once again slammed my dessert down in a hurry which I thought was going to fall off at first!
And finally, when we asked for the bill, one of the other waitresses gave us the bill and said she’d back with the card machine in two seconds (two seconds was 20 minutes).. we were confused, because she disappeared for a while and then we could see her at the bar afterwards making multiple drinks. It would have been easier to just serve us first, we would have left ages ago!
Although the food was great, I don’t think the £75 per head was justified after having...
Read moreAh, what a delightful establishment is Butley Ash! Tucked away gracefully along London Road in the charming hamlet of Prestbury, this wondrous pub and restaurant exudes an air of utmost coziness and British tradition. My esteemed companion and I had the utmost pleasure of partaking in its hospitality, and I must say, our experience was nothing short of splendid.
Upon stepping through the inviting doors, we were instantly enveloped in the warm embrace of a bygone era, for the interior was bedecked in the most splendid British antique style. A true feast for the eyes, indeed! And speaking of feasts, our palates were treated to an exquisite repast that still lingers in my memories.
Ah, the dishes we selected were a symphony of flavors! Two bowls of comforting soup, to start, exuded a homely charm that was most endearing. And the pièce de résistance, the classic fish and chips dish, was an absolute triumph! Each morsel was a testament to the culinary prowess of the talented kitchen.
But let us not forget the impeccable service, for it is the heart and soul of any establishment. Our esteemed young waiter, Mr. 'J,' deserves the highest praise. With a beaming smile and gracious demeanor, he guided us through the menu with the utmost finesse, offering his most esteemed recommendations. Such thoughtful attention to detail elevated the entire experience, and we were simply enchanted by his amiable nature.
Indeed, our visit to Butley Ash was an enchanting affair, one that left an indelible mark upon our hearts. I wholeheartedly endorse this charming establishment to all who seek a taste of quintessential British culinary delights, accompanied by top-notch service. The memories of our visit linger fondly, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. It is an absolute must-visit, and I shall undoubtedly return with great anticipation.
