We were over from Belfast for the day for private business in Sheffield and I had plotted the route the previous week from Cairnryan and found that this was about smack dab in the middle of a 263 mile journey there and back. We arrived between 08:30 - 09:00 as we got out of the car you could smell a wood stove burning kind of smell, this is a good start before we even walk in. There was one lady that greeted us right away, I naturally said a few pleasantries and ran to the bathroom (haha), to which I must say were cleaner than some hotels I have been in. Ordered a small fry without the beans (I don't understand beans or chips as part of a fry-up, just feed me ) I digress a little, my wife had eggs on toast. We were very happy with our food. The lady who served us had a few chit chat words with us as to our day not in a nosey way just kindly conversation also, my Belfast accent kind of sticks out a wee bit. Just as we were leaving and went to pay the bill, I spotted some coconut covered cake with jam and a dribble appeared out of the side of my mouth, secondary school dessert on Friday's with custard. It was 45 - 50 years ago and I felt like it was last week :}. My wife saw me and laughed, she knew. So we said " We will be back " on our journey home for some cake.
Guess what, it just so happened we had to make a slight detour on our way home and popped into the Sixty Six Cafe. Cake and tea for me, this may seem selfish I don't even know what the wife had to eat or drink, it was yum yum time, I actually said that like a big kid with a dopey grin on his face . So to rap it up, we enjoyed the atmosphere of a young lady serving us enjoying her work, lowly singing any song that came on the radio with a really nice and an amazing friendly personality, the cook/chef did a great job. If we are back in this direction by car or motorbike, we will definitely pop in. Robert & Rachel :}
PS : If you put signage about 1 mile up the road in both directions, we reckon that you could get a bit more...
Read moreCafe Sixty Six us simply the best, the ladies who run it are the most amazing friendly loveliest people you could wish to meet. Their service is one thousand percent beyond reproach, their food is beautifully cooked and presented . The charming immaculate decor puts you at ease and with a stunning roaring log burner it is like popping to an old friends place for dinner . I am not a staff member but I'm a regular having stopped there from its early days and before as a little chef . I cannot recommend enough for people to save it as a favourite on their Satnav or Google maps. There is a short entrance as a section of dual carriageway ends . But it's easy to reach east or west . I have said I may go for a proper evening meal . It deserves 50 stars . I have been having to go back n forth from Scotland to Yorkshire and I always go in. A thousand thank yous to all the staff at Cafe Sixty Six , the only pity is it hasn't got a branch near my home!!. The only tiny thing is change is have the heat in the gents a tad higher. But again the toilets are utterly spotless. Believe me this place has to be seen to...
Read moreJust stopped here for food half way through a very long journey. The staff was arrogant and rude, I ordered a burger, chips and a coffee. Burger was dripping in grease, chips tasted like they was re fried and also dripping in grease. Asked for bbq sauce and was refused this is only for people eating in. I wasn't given the option to eat in, whilst I was eating my food in the van we was constantly watched through the window of the cafe. And the price was ridiculous £17.50 for one meal and a coffee is disgusting.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF AND LOOKED DOWN ON!
Update I've been up since the early hours of this morning with what I presume to be food poisoning. I cannot think of anything else it could be other than this cafe, all I had to drink yesterday was bottled water and a coffee from here and the only food was from here to as I cannot eat in the morning. I didn't eat my tea as I felt off side. I will be reporting to your local council so expect a visit from food and hygiene.
