On an overcast turned rainy weekday, we and our dogs were given such an utterly warm welcome (and some ham treats!) by both Hilary’s that along with such charming decoration, it felt like we had arrived at a good friends house.

The homemade soup (as was recommended by some equally friendly locals who had just finished theirs) was fresh and warming. Chatting away with the friendly locals who kept arriving, and were all clearly regulars; we felt like we were part of a small community. You know a place must be good when nearby residents visit regularly.

The tea and cake desert though were simply divine, the Biscotti Cheesecake portion was as generous as it was delicious.

When driving to the Canny Cuppa we actually missed the entrance first time as Google maps doesn’t have the entrance right; it made it look like you drive straight into it, off the A1. Instead, make sure you turn into the road signposted Fieldhead and Causey Park, it’s then just on your right. I’ve tried to submit an edit to fix this.

Having driven passed we turned around and headed back and thank goodness we did, we enjoyed the friendliness as much as we did the food....

Popped in for breakfast for my husband and a cake for me while we were staying at the holiday park up the road. Wish we'd found this wee gem earlier on in our holiday. The warmest welcome from not only the owners but also the 2 customers who were in for coffee. We ordered a cooked breakfast and I had a fruit scone. The breakfast was delicious, bacon perfectly crisp, fried eggs with a soft yolk and great black pudding. My scone was served with jam & clotted cream and was delicious. The bill was very good value too. Not only did we eat well but we also got some very helpful advice with what to visit on our last afternoon. A hidden gem off the beaten track, if you're visiting Northumberland make...

Spotted this great little place by chance. A small sign captured my eye as we were driving past so decided to pop in the next day. So so glad we did. Cute little cottage feel, although just off the main road it's quite peaceful when sat out. We sat outside but was assured we could bring our dog in. As soon as they knew we had a dog, treats were offered instantly and made my fur baby feel as welcomed as we were! Food is delicious, homemade which is even better with great friendly service. Pop in, you won't be disappointed at all and we will certainly be visiting on our...

Food was absolutely amazing. The staff are absolutely lovely and constantly topping up teas and coffees and bringing the next course of afternoon tea. The photos do not include the cake that we had to take home as we were so full. Little extra to buy like the autumn bobbler! Also, £13 for sandwiches: beef and mustard, ham and pease pudding, salmon and cream cheese. Then, cheese scones, quiche, sausage roll. Followed by clotted cream and jam scones, fruit meringue... then a cake to eat-in or take home as we had to do. We will be back and fully recommend it!

Quirky little rest stop that’s also dog friendly. Bit like the mad hatters tea room, but with better service and great food! Do yourself a favour and come here instead of the chain stop off points/services. Loads of indoor and outdoor seating, plenty to entertain yourself with in terms of the eclectic decor AND you get free refills on filter coffees. The food is also worth a special trip too with home baked cakes and generously filled sandwiches.

Fantastic find just off the A1 after Morpeth. If heading N take a left to Field head and immediately on the right. Perfect for a pit stop. Lovely food and brilliant staff. Bottomless coffee, large sausage sandwich on granary bun and a much sought after cherry scone for 5 and change. I mentioned the brilliant staff, but almost forgot the jolly, friendly regulars who helped make the visit warm and memorable. I will be back.
