Have driven past the Castle of Comfort many times over the years, but this was the first time we stopped for a meal. First impressions: characterful old Country pub with plenty of charm, very friendly greeting by the lady running the service.

We both went for the Cheeseburger and chips, expecting the same service you get in a lot of places these days - a rather bland burger and some thin french fries, bought in frozen. Boy, we were mistaken! The side salad arrived first - on a seperate side plate. The burgers arrived - big really thick, presumably locally made burgers in a fresh huge bun, a wonderful plate of "proper" chips, not fries, perfectly cooked and a handsome amount of peas. The meal was cooked just right and absbolutely delicious.

We had a good chat with the lady at the bar and she advised that it was essential to make bookings for both lunchtime and evening meals, as the place is usually full to capacity. We were lucky today, as we arrived towards the end of the lunchtime service.

We will be back to experience their renown steak meals and perhaps a...

This place has definitely got the right name! We went there for Sunday lunch on a very wet and windy day to be greeted by friendly and attentive staff in a warm, cosy, and clean pub. The food could not be faulted and there was plenty of it. My niece had the roast turkey which she said was perfectly cooked and very tasty - we think that it must have been from a local farm. I had the vegetarian nut roast which was also very tasty with a goats cheese topping. It came with cauliflower cheese and plenty of mixed vegetables & gravy and the whole meal which was reasonably priced at £10.95 for the roast was finished off with coffee and a scoop of ice cream. The coffee was a little expensive at £3.65 but considering the value of the meal and the wonderful service, I am not complaining. The whole pub was also beautifully decorated with Christmas lights and the ambience was of a lovely traditional...

Called in on way back home from a great day out, hoping to find a pub that would accommodate a walk in meal , as all others were not very helpful . They can't av been more helpful,we were greeted with a genuine nice welcome , i asked very nicely, and lo and behold, managed to squeezed us in with a 1 hour time slot before next reserved table at 7. Drinks from bar were served straight away ,despite it already being busy with a large party, service well attentive and pleasant , food arrived within 15 mins and woz as described " very yummy homemade cottage pie! The lovley food flew down Bong !! into our tummies ! We made sure to leave table well before the next booking with a small tip in appreciation . The outside of the Castle of Comfort is very well presented with a large car park and a children's play park , plenty of quality out door seating. The menu choice was limited but enough to satisfy most people , home style lasagne of a good standard as was the Hunters chicken the rump steak was not the best , all served with a very basic salad. One disappointment was when the meal was served nobody came back to check if everything was OK . No dijon or french mustard for the steaks , the home made pie sold out. Not a deal breaker but could have been a lot better. They get very busy so reserving a table is recommended.

Myself and my partner visited this pub the other evening for a meal and a drink. The pub has excellent character with ample parking and the customer service was spot on. The food was delicious with generous portions - this with the quality of the food made it excellent value for money. It was very busy when we visited so booking is recommended and following our experience you can see why it is popular! We will definitely be visiting again- delicious food, great prices, great customer service and great atmosphere. 10/10.

Great pub, we decided to stop here in our motorhome as they had good parking spaces. The service was top notch and so were the meals. My wife had two entrees and I had the homemade pie. We could not fault the meals as they were delicious and a good size, the staff were friendly and helpful. Would not hesitate stopping here.
