Have driven past the Castle of Comfort many times over the years, but this was the first time we stopped for a meal. First impressions: characterful old Country pub with plenty of charm, very friendly greeting by the lady running the service.
We both went for the Cheeseburger and chips, expecting the same service you get in a lot of places these days - a rather bland burger and some thin french fries, bought in frozen. Boy, we were mistaken! The side salad arrived first - on a seperate side plate. The burgers arrived - big really thick, presumably locally made burgers in a fresh huge bun, a wonderful plate of "proper" chips, not fries, perfectly cooked and a handsome amount of peas. The meal was cooked just right and absbolutely delicious.

The coffee was a little expensive at £3.65 but considering the value of the meal and the wonderful service, I am not complaining. The whole pub was also beautifully decorated with Christmas lights and the ambience was of a lovely traditional...
