We are local and have tried this cafe 3 or 4 times. We came recently and it was very busy so couldn't sit in thought we would get food to take out. I'm vegetarian so I chose the veg flat bread my family eat meat but we didn't feel that the young man on the till was very helpful would have been helpful if he spoke up and explained what was on the menu just didn't come across as very friendly or helpful. I ordered mine but they didn't order. It took a while for mine to be ready i ate it in the car and it was lovely and very tasty. We decided to try again this time they were less busy and we sat inside unfortunately no omelettes flatbread and jacket potatos on Mondays and Tues doesn't really leave a lot on the menu and even less for vegetarians. We chose a sandwich each but again the staff not very chatty we tried to chat to them but it was a bit uncomfortable as the guy didn't chat back. I heard another customer ask the person taken the order what paniniis they have the guy replied anything I think a friendly we have this this and this available rather than anything would have been a better response. Nice simple food not a lot on the menu but its OK for a snack. But for us it's not just about the food we like to feel welcome and have a chat and just not feeling it...

Had read about the Chatterbox Cafe in the local Weardale Gazette, so myself and Tracy decided to have a ride out in the car and call in at the cafe for lunch. We arrived to a warm welcome from the owners and took a seat from the moment we sat down we were greeted with pleasant chat and excellent service. Tracy decided on the ham and salad in a brown granary bun and I decided on the bacon sandwich in brown granary bun, both sandwiches were very tasty and fresh as well they did not hold back on filling the buns which left you feeling satisfied, so to end our lunch out Tracy had the Lemon Drizzle Cake, and not to feel left out I had the chocolate cookie. For drinks we had coffee, where there were free refills available which is very nice as Tracy does like a cup of coffee. More customers arrived after us and they received the same warm welcome as us and the owner struck up a good rapport with the children who came in with the adult. So if your looking for great food and beverages and a really friendly service you would be hard pushed to find a better cafe, and the scenery on the way to the cafe is very nice too, so why not have yourself a ride out and experience the warm welcome and chat for yourselves and enjoy the lovely food and...

THIS IS THE WAY TO RUN A CAFE/COFFEE SHOP! WE CAME ACROSS "CHATTERBOX" BY SHEER ACCIDENT - OUT FOR A DRIVE TO ALSTON AFTER RECENTLY MOVING TO THE AREA. WE WANTED A QUICK COFFEE/TEA AND DROPPED IN. THE RECEPTION GIVEN BY THE OWNER WAS SUPERB. THE PLACE WAS FULL WHEN WE ARRIVED AND WE WERE ABOUT TO TRY SOMEWHERE ELSE WHEN OTHER CUSTOMERS WERE ABOUT TO LEAVE AND WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE THEIR PLACES. THEN OTHER, REGULAR, CUSTOMERS ARRIVED AND WE WERE ASKED BY THE OWNER IF WE MINDED SHARING OUR TABLE.OUR QUICK COFFEE FINISHED UP TAKING NIGH ON TWO HOURS! THE SERVICE WAS GREAT,THE FOOD ( BACON ROLL AND FRUIT SCONE) WERE EXCELLENT AND THE ATMOSPHERE FANTASTIC -TALKED TO TOTAL STRANGERS WITH FREE COFFEE AND TEA TOP UPS ALL THE WHILE. LOOKING FORWARD TO GOING BACK - AGAIN...

What an amazing little find! I've never been to this part of the UK before and called in on spec. Gorgeous and spotlessly clean cafe, including the toilet facilities. Lovely view from the window. Lots of locals were inside chatting which gave it a friendly and chilled-out atmosphere. I ordered a cheese and onion omelette which came with loads of home-made coleslaw. My friend had the bacon batch (huge!) and a cheese scone (huge!). Coffee was delicious. The prices were very reasonable. We loved that we could take the dog inside. Waitressing staff were lovely and I would definitely call in again. If I lived here, this would be my go-to.

Popped in on my way back from horse riding, and I had a full English with a mug of filter coffee. Was really tasty and you get unlimited toast and coffee. Didn't need the extra toast though as I had loads on my plate. I couldnt finish it all! Coffee was nice and strong just how I like it. Today they were understaffed which meant there was a small wait but I was in no hurry and didn't mind at all. They were very friendly and apologetic when they brought my food out but it was fine. Will definitley make this a regular visit on my travels!

We stopped off for a break in driving. I had chocolate oreo cake and Cappuccino, and parter had a scone and orange juice. Came to £9.80. Reasonable priced and tasted lovely. Staff were friendly and chatty, ( if you wanted) Parking outside. Wheelchair accessible. Would be nice to have more vegetarian options. Couple of small tables outside if wanted.
