Latest up date. Work Shop Now servicing all motorcycles. Robin has now decided to transfer his talents,as a fully qualified Marine Electrical Engineer, with many years experience working on automated Lighthouses and marine warning lights etc., to the world of motorcycle electrics. (He is also a keen motorcyclist..) I had a mystery electrical cut out problem, over led head light. Robin not only sorted it with great care and efficiency, but also explained the problem and cure, with quick diagrams on wipe over board on wall....! The cost...? Without mention of exact amount, about a third of what I had been expecting. If you need an expert for motorcycle electrics, or just need lights fitting etc., I can only say, look no further. Now noticing some very nice motorcycles in for servicing, testament to Robin's excellent standard of work.
Cafe. An exceptional meeting place for motorcyclists and those requiring value for money. Nice folk who take great pride in running their business and making all welcome. The menu has everything for all those seeking home~cooking at a great price.
Good Luck to them, they deserve it !! Also noticed hand made electric guitars from a well known cornish cabinet maker, and life~ long motorcyclist, will soon be selling from there. This place really is enhancing the area and should be well supported. Spread the word! If this sounds like an advert, apologies..! Call in and judge for yourself, they really are a quality set up.
Right, update. In the last 6 months I have been using The Chequered Flag, I am glad to say standards have remained consistently high. Food is always freshly prepared, always a warm welcome, and probably the cleanest toilets, I have ever encountered in many years of dining out..!! Ps. For the roughty~toughty bikers amongst us, order cake at your peril, as it comes on a heart...
Read moreThis is a golden nugget. Easily missed as on a main road and possibly overlooked as a place to go unless you are a biker or motorcycle enthusiast. The cafe staff are so friendly and helpful. I am coeliac and there is an amazing gluten free offering. The staff are very knowledgeable about cross contamination. The menu is mouthwatering and the difficulty is in choosing, as it tastes so good and I wanted to eat it all. The inside decor is a diner vintage 50s look. Lovely, clean and great atmosphere. The motorcycle workshop/shop next door is great to have a look at and I bought a fab t-shirt. Staff were so welcoming I tried out a couple of bikes, sadly I am not tall enough so my motorbike career is on hold! Dog friendly too, my pup was spoilt for attention. I think what struck me the most was when we arrived my daughter is in a wheelchair and they were straight out opening the doors for access without us asking. Some of the locals immediately moved their bikes for us and could not have done more. We were able to choose a table that suit us too with them happy to help accommodate us. All in all if you are in the area you must put it on your list and if you are local get down there for a smashing meal and atmosphere. Truly a highlight of our holiday....
Read moreI have worked all over the country for many years and have had a fair few full English breakfasts. Some have been outstanding, some have been terrible, but this was the worst I have ever eaten. It took a very long time to come, which is fine if you are getting good quality food. But what was served here was anything but quality. Everything was so dry, even the beans and tomatoes couldn’t revive what was on the plate. How everything can have the exact same taste of bland is a skill in itself, but it was managed here impeccably. Everything, though apparently cooked fresh, had that dry Sahara crisp about it. Think about a cowpat dried in the sun, that was the black pudding. I would implore you to avoid at all costs, there is Route 38 and Windy Ridge a few minutes away, these both offer far better quality food and certainly, Route 38 an equivalent price for a much larger and better quality serving.
I would have given this a zero star rating, but the venue wasn’t too bad, the staff were nice enough and it’s got some great memorabilia in there.
But the food, well I’d give that to...
