We have had many takeaways from the Chew Valley Raj, all of which we have enjoyed tremendously. The staff are very friendly and Daz is the man! So last time, when the menu said my curry was 'cooked with cinnamon' I fully expected it to have had a cinnamon stick in at some point, but also that it would have been removed before presentation! Unfortunately, not only was the cinnamon stick still in my meal, it had been splintered, each mouthful seemed to contain pieces of the wood, some 2 or 3cm long, others tiny splinters. Last night we returned to the Chew Valley Raj, and mentioned my experience to Daz. Unfortunately, he didn't seem at all interested, saying it is put there for flavour, and sometimes people bite them, I explained that this was most definitely not the case, and that I regularly use cinnamon sticks in my cooking. We had no apology, no offer of compensation of any sort, and Daz only agreed to speak to the chef when my husband insisted upon it. I am very sad to say we will not get another takeaway from the...
Read moreAverage food, below average service. We visited last week and the service felt incredibly rushed. Barely sat down whilst waiting for two others and were asked if we wanted starters. Then when the other 2 arrived and sat down asked if we knew what we wanted. After asking for 10 minutes, when the waiter came over he said "if you haven't looked yet just tell me what you want" so one of us didn't even get a look at the menu. Then whilst taking our order he was seating someone else. All very rushed.
Food itself came out a little too quickly, to the point we debated if chef mic had a little dabble in the process. Also were told one dish would be hot and it was mild at best. Chutneys were incredibly poor quality.
Upon paying the waiter didn't even say thank you, just walked off.
All in all, disappointing, would not recommend,...
Read moreWe got takeaway from here tonight as our local was unexpectedly closed but we had our hearts set on curry! We did a fair bit of research before choosing the Raj and the reviews averaged better than a lot of others locally so we placed an order via Chef Online (a very easy process)
We had poppadoms, chutneys, chicken chat, sheesh kebab and chicken tikka for starters, then chicken tikka masala, mixed biriyani and sag aloo for mains. We really enjoyed all of it. Good quality and flavours and decent portions.
It’s based alongside the pub, so you go in the door to your right and it’s at the back. Plenty of parking in the pub car park. The food kept nice and hot even though we live 20...
