Dismal experience I'm sorry to say. We stopped off at the cafe for lunch before we left the gardens, which had been a lovely morning out with the kids. We paid almost £50 for four sandwiches and some drinks. We were told some items were unavailable, but we could still have the order without them. This was not accounted for in our bill however and we paid £9.35 for an egg mayo sandwich (no cress available) and £13.95 for a ploughman's (no pies available). When the food did arrive it was extremely poor quality. The cheese and ham had a plastic like flavour as though they came from a packet, the coleslaw and salad tasted soapy, the egg mayo had no flavour at all and the brown bread was stale and overly sweet. Needs separate card machine for both parts to speed up queuing times at events and someone making sure your guests have a place to eat. The Tea Rooms seemed to be suprisingly swamped by too few staff fighting a losing battle with the numbers attending and totally Ill-prepared for the foreseeable demand.
