Clubhouse 1896 — Restaurant in England

First time visiting this place and unfortunately my partner and I were really disappointed. Firstly the waitress was stood in the middle of the restaurant when we first arrived, doing nothing, she pointed to the menu to tell us to grab them ourselves when they were just to the left of her. I went in to order and it was just difficult. I wanted to add some pancakes to my food order but apparently that just wasn’t possible as they had a big party in. But if I ordered separately that would have been ok? Didn’t make much sense to me. The food then arrived, my halloumi was hard and not grilled, the eggs were dripping in oil. Hash browns were nice though 👍, my partner ordered the full American breakfast and I think any American would be embarrassed to call that an American breakfast. They advertise American waffles on their menu pictures but give you potato waffles. I ordered an apple, elderflower and mint drink but it came with no mint. Pancakes were mushy and bland. Having left a 4star for my Clubhouse 1896 experience I was shocked to see it showed as a 1star and understandably a concerned response from the venue. Firstly my apologies and I'll attempt to change however if its not possible here is my review. Found a table member of staff promptly came over and took our drink order and returned with drinks for our food choices, we went for a lught lunch choice. While waiting it was nice to see the staff promptly clearing and cleaning tables when people left, the condiment tray was well stocked even down to drinks mats. So our double egg chips and beans twice arrived looked nice tasted great! I noted the Sunday roasts coming from the the kitchen looked amazing too, and will definitely be back for more. Again Clubhouse 1896 my apologies for the error 4stars...

It was our first time visiting today, friends catching up over lunch. I just wanted to say we all had a roast lunch and it was amazing . Portion size was great. Food was top quality. Piping hot.
