It’s not often that the aesthetic of a venue will make more of an impression than the actual food, but this was the case with our trip to the Copa club in Sonning. The wait list for a seat in the outdoor igloo’s was quite long so we were expecting something a little special. Despite the cold January afternoon, the warm and cosy igloo’s were a lovely way to enjoy a lunch in the fading light. The service was also polite and surprisingly efficient, seeing that the hot food had to be ferried quite a distance from inside the pub to the cold garden outside. The food however didn’t quite match the expectations that had been set by the ambiance. After a starter of deep fried squid, which was fresh but not as crispy and tasty as the batter could have been, we moved onto our mains. The fish and chips, usually a safe bet, was a solid, ok. The fish inside was fresh and batter was crispy. But there was just a lot of batter, perhaps too much, so it felt like you were almost eating as much batter as actual fish. The chips were actually fries rather than the big slices of potato usually I prefer with a fish and chips, so I wasn’t a big fan of that, although it might be some people’s cup of tea. The quiche and salad was again smack bang in the ok territory, light and tasty without being delicious. The fish on a bed of beans was a little overdone and perhaps slightly drier than expected but overall it was bad. The pulled lamb burger was a disappointment though as it was just too dry and the lamb instead of being succulent and packed with flavour was chewy and just hard work to get through. The coleslaw on top didn’t really add any extra flavour or taste to the meat and it just seems like an odd topping. The meat itself wasn’t flavoured in any spices that I could recognise and after a while it just felt bland and un-lamb-like. At least the chips were proper thick chips, but with a dry burger, they were not the best accompaniment. All in all, despite the forgettable food, the service was good and the venue great. So if you’re just looking to soak in the chilled vibes and grab a few drink, you’d probably leave on a better note, than if you settled for the full...
Read more😡Matt King On the 27/August 2024 my dad ordered glass pod for my brother’s birthday we all had a starter then they brought out the main course but they had not cleared away our starter plates you would clear away the starter plates before serving the main course my brother had the steak he said it was fatty not good. He asked for a knife and knife was blunt could not cut through the steak the lady replaced the knife that knife was blunt as well not good I a all our chips were cold not good. They did replace the chips but they were a little bit warmer I had the fish and chips dry not very good and the cod Not big and chunky. It was like having something from a supermarket that’s not good when I asked do we have mushy peas She said yes no it was not mushy peas. They were dried peas that’s not good. Would I recommend this place for fish and chips? No that’s not good with my brother. Recommend this place for steak. No that’s not good. My dad said would like to speak to the manager. the waitress went and got the manager manager just wanted to speak over the top of us and not listen to what we were saying he could’ve spoken after we had finished remember the customer comes first the waitress listen to what we had to say she should be made manager not the manager because he didn’t want to listen. He likes being a manager because he gets paid a lot of money but he doesn’t like doing his job and that is listening to his customers would I recommend this restaurant this restaurant no if I wanted poor quality food I would go to a cheaper restaurant. I came here because this restaurant is meant to be good that’s why you pay more money. I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone. I get better service at a Wetherspoons the manager, listens before speaking and does not walk away. 😡 when restaurant only gets 4.2 then you know there is something wrong with...
Read more1-star for the discretionary fee. 4 stars otherwise.
It is a lovely busy place and the waiters are extremely kind and polite but from our perspective there were multiple things wrong that are not related to the waiters but the management: we asked for the dog water multiple times we were asked for tomato sauce but it never came the car park is not painted for wide cars, you will struggle to get in your cars because of that the drinks came after 20 minutes, the food after 30 minutes. We were seated at 16:15 and started eating at 16:50 the floor of the dome was already dirty, I know it’s not easy to keep it tidy but when you have a rule that says that you need to spend a minimum of £25 to be in the dome you expect a better standard. There was a glass on the table as well. We arrived 15 minutes late so it should had been enough time to get it ready. the tiles to get to the dome are not fit for high heels. They are a problem for people on heels and perhaps drunk the 12.5% discretionary fee puts me off every time. We reduced to 5% for bad experience but for me I always inclined to reduce it to 0% because it’s automatic. If your staff is not paid enough put the prices even higher and do something about all the points I mentioned
You do have quantity but no focus on quality. We spent £130 for 4 people.
Why are the managers the problem? I don’t know the revenue, profits, overhead, etc. but it should be about the people. If that means higher prices, you might get better clients, but if you don’t train and treat your staff with respect (including not overworking them and decent wages) you will get something like this.
As a client, I am not responsible to pay tips to your staff. You pay them good wages and forget about...
