Copper Beech was once known for offering one of the best Sunday roasts in Darlington; however, it no longer meets expectations. During our recent visit, the food quality was wholly unacceptable. The pork was cold and tough, the vegetables appeared aged, and the Yorkshire pudding was burnt and inedibly hard. Service standards were equally poor. Staff were visibly disinterested and unwelcoming. The individual who took our order appeared rushed and inattentive, and we had to actively chase her down to request additional sides. There were no check-backs during our meal, and not a single member of staff – including the manager – made any effort to engage with or show courtesy to customers. Hygiene and cleanliness were also below acceptable standards. Leftover food and debris from previous customers remained on the floor throughout our visit and were not cleaned. Additionally, some serving staff were observed wearing long nails and bracelets, which raises concerns about food hygiene compliance. On a positive note, the pub offers free parking and was relatively quiet. However, these points do not compensate for the overall decline in food quality, service, and cleanliness. This experience was extremely disappointing and far removed from the standards previously associated with this...
Read moreFirst time coming here and although I didn't get to eat as much as I intended this place is lovely. The staff were super friendly, the food was lush and I overhead other customers saying how nice their food was. We did need to book a table given the current restrictions (I'm not sure whether it's a common thing) They had baby changing facilities and our 1 year old seemed to really enjoy her scrambled egg and some toast. There is something I need to mention just so you all don't go mad at the staff.. who by the way are still recovering from lockdown, if the place is busy they may not take your food order until the kitchen is ready, this is because they don't want to overwork the chefs, we were early for our booking and there will be a few that are in the same boat, you get your drinks immediately after ordering but just keep in mind your food order might be delayed depending on how many orders the kitchen has. An additional 10 minutes won't kill you, just be patient. The food is worth the wait. There is no bus stop right outside and a nice sized car park so getting here is not really an issue. I totally understand the frustration of some people but the staff have just been allowed to start working again so for the love of...
Read moreVisited this evening for my sisters 30th birthday. Service started well from a slim blond woman very attentive. We ordered. 40 minutes the food took to arrive, but fair enough a few tables were in at this time so gave them the benefit of the doubt. I had fish and chips the batter was soaking and soggy but I didn’t want to complain I just ate the fish, I think the fish has been frozen and just put in a water bath to defrost making the batter soggy and wet. My brother in law had the risotto and didn’t think it tasted of anything zero flavour. My sister told the waitress this time was an older woman the problem to be recurved with attitude.”why didn’t you you say when I did the check back” my sister replied “he was outside briefly getting the baby settled” the waitress then took the food away and came back and said the chef was happy with that dish so wasn’t prepared to sort it out for him. Again in a rude manner. This was my sisters 30th and was spoilt by a rude and argumentative woman. She has been there a few years we know this as we do come maybe once every couple of months. Unfortunately last visit for...
