We have just returned from an 11 day stay at Cornish Coasts and were overwhelmed at how friendly and approachable the owners were. Karen, Liz and Kevin could not do enough to help with anything we asked and were always on hand if there was a problem. On one occasion - where a youngster had had an accident (not caused by the campsite) and suffered a nasty cut to his forehead Kevin took the upset parents and child to the local minor injuries unit whilst Liz looked after the two sisters. This went above and beyond the call of duty and showed a caring for their customers. This is just one example of their helpfulness. Another example was the efforts they put in to trying to help campers with their set-ups in particularly windy weather conditions.... I am not quite sure how many tents they saved but I know they were busy.
Our particular camping circumstances were slightly out of the norm and from the minute we rang up to get a quote we knew we had picked a good site. On arrival we were shown to our pitch which was nicely tucked away in a corner and a tree line away from the park - ideal for our three children (ages 5 - 8) to stay occupied on whilst we pitched and set up.
The park itself has a swing set with slide, a separate swing set, a little tykes play set up and a football goal with plenty of balls around the place. Our children loved it and spent many happy hours on it making new friends.
The site is one of the cleanest I have been to in 5 years of camping and the showers didn't have that "grassy" feel that many have or a mingy looking mop bucket tucked in the corner (it didn't need it). If there was a technical hiccup (such as one of the lights being out one night) it was fixed as soon as the owners were notified.
The showers (I can only talk about the ladies!) are quirky with 2 shower cubicles and 3 toilets. The children loved the toilet seats (especially the beach and the cow) and whilst there was sometimes a queue for the showers this is expected. The shower cubicles themselves were big enough for me and my two youngest to stand in whilst they were showered one at a time which makes life easier for parents of young children. There were also a number of hooks behind the door which is often a missing necessity in camp site showers. The showers were also free which is getting rarer these days.
The washing up facilities were adequate-looking although we didn't use them and again these areas were kept clean and tidy. There is also a washing machine and dryer which we used a couple of times. It cost me about a tenner to do a non-colourfast wash and dry but that is because I paid for the option of a longer wash and then dry. You can actually get the basics done for half that price.
The location is also ideally placed on the A39 and within easy reach of Bude, Widemouth Bay and many other parts of Cornwall.
Would I recommend this site?? Definitely and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStayed for a week on an electric tent pitch. Weather was terrible and we inherited a pitch that was only recently vacated so our front door was a mud patch. Pitch was on a slight slope too, making decisions about tent orientation (and avoiding the mud) harder.
Facilities ranged in quality. The shop and cafe are excellent. with a camping equipment store upstairs that would put Blacks to shame. Necessities are sold but not particularly cheaply. Cafe food was great.
Shower and toilet facilities were OK. Newer shower block at the bottom could really do with better ventilation, resulting in clammy dressing after a shower - Ick. The external Mens shower at the top seemed to be poorly lit and nothing I did seemed to trigger the light which was entirely motion-sensed as far as I could tell. The internal one had a tendency to flood the far left toilet floor.
The pitch being so near to the kids playground wasn't ideal. There's a curfew of 10pm but an earlier 9pm one for the playground might be desirable. We visited when sunset was around 8:15 and the playground was still full of happy screaming children till 10, making any conventional bedtimes for younger kids problematic. The playground itself however seemed good and our kids loved it.
Probably wouldn't visit again if forced to be so close to the playground. I like my sleep and a long day at the sea had me tired long...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst of all I would love to say that I will always pick this place if I'm staying in Cornwall around Bude area. Either pitch up a tent or have your little camper/motor home. They also have Static Caravans and one or two apartments/flats.
This time around me and my partner stayed in one of the flats upstairs from the little cafe/shop. These flats are BEAUTIFUL! Fully decorated and equipped for anything you wanted. Literally having your own little flat while you're away on holiday!!
The woman that gave us our key was very understanding as we arrived a lot later than we thought, she was always making sure we were okay and we were having a lovely time as well as all of the staff in the cafe/shop. They've all been so kind and helpful.
Honestly if you're wanting a little place to be able to sit down and chill out at night and be able to go around Bude or anywhere else during the day this is the place to be. I can't recommend this place enough!
Can't wait to come back...
