As a coeliac, I have to be very careful where I eat. As there wasn't a menu online for the specific day I was planning to eat at the cottage, I called ahead to check there would be something suitable. I was able to speak to the chef himself and he was very helpful. He listened to my long list of foods I couldn't eat (not just gluten etc) and came up with suggestions that suited me. He even made an extra risotto that wasn't on the menu so I could have some.

My son also has some dietary requirements so we both had hake, him with the special risotto and me with the sides that come with the roast (including gluten and dairy free cauliflower cheese!). See first pic. It was absolutely delicious! There was even a super yummy gluten and dairy free dessert we could have, which was really exciting.

We were with a couple of meat eaters, who also declared their food to be delicious so this was an absolute win all round. See second pic

The pub is really nicely decorated and in a gorgeous old building.

Our visit was a total pleasure and we will...

Had a beautiful roast Sunday lunch here recently with family and our small dog. I booked an early table in view of very limited parking spaces outside this lovely old pub. We managed to park quite close to entrance as two of my party have walking difficulties. The bridge leading to the field for overspill is broken so the field was out of action unfortunately -which led to a bit of a problem for other diners later. The four members of staff serving in restaurant were very efficient and friendly. Choices on menu were excellent. Two chose roast beef and one roast pork. All totally scrumptious, served on piping hot plates and veg in piping hot serving dishes. The desserts we chose were absolutely gorgeous too. The best cheesecake I’ve ever tasted. It was lovely that dogs are permitted in the pub too. Our dog comes everywhere with us. I would certainly highly recommend this gorgeous quaint pub for a delicious meal. The beverages on offer are...

Twelve of us reserved the (semi) private room for Liz, our eldest sister’s 80th birthday lunch party. The situation of this lovely historic pub/restaurant, and the warm welcome we received, set the ideal scene for what was to be the most delicious lunch. The choice, quality and quantity of the food was simply outstanding: freshly sourced, imaginative, and perfectly cooked. We all agreed everything was first class.

Finally, a word about the hosts, Helen and Richard and their staff, who were warm, friendly and efficient, without being intrusive. It was a special day for Liz – indeed for all of us – made extra special by the quality of the hospitality food at the Cottage of Content. This was our first visit; we...

Small, picture perfect little pub, with friendly and helpful staff. When we arrived (it was a stop off during a walk) they said they couldn't accommodate us for food as they were fully booked but they could offer us chips which was what we wanted anyway, so win win. OH MY GOODNESS, if you ever get the chance to try their cheesy chips you will not be sorry. They we soooo good. There is also an Olympic Torch behind the bar in a display case and the patron was more than happy to tell us how it came to be there.

Nice sunny day, nothing much to do: pub lunch. Chose this pub because of proximity, reviews and the name. It is an attractive place, pleasantly decorated and with a welcoming fire. The choice of beers is interesting, the Hobson's is very decent. Just had ham, egg and chips which was good. The chips were outstanding. Staff are very friendly and service was superb. The bar stools look extremely comfortable. There are a couple of car parks and plenty of outside seating for the warmer weather.
