Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and we will return. Down side (minor but noticed by us both arriving separately) the signage for car parking and cafe not acutely clear. Lots of small signs, not at all simple. Could be helped by larger clear signage .
The cafe environment was both clean and welcoming . The staff were friendly which immediately ticked boxes!! This was a huge plus. Nothing worse than miserable and grumpy staff. Friendly, happy, polite but fun staff make a difference. We had scones, a fruit scone with jam and cream which had a consistency rather fruit crumble esque and was delicious. We had a Stilton scone which in essence was very good but a tad salty. We had two lattes and in total was around twenty one pounds. Our personal preference would have been for the butter, cream and jam to have not been served in plastic one serve catering portions. This review is as we found it, honest with pros and cons and we...
Read moreWe were looking for good food in a nice setting & werenât disappointed. Itâs off the beaten track, but thatâs a bonus. In pretty, very well kept grounds, there is lots of well thought out parking, as well as other units of interest - cheese making, pottery, glass, beautiful childrenâs clothing, plus others. This is more than a coffee shop, although the drinks & cakes are extensive & look delicious. We wanted a hot meal & went for the Thai fish cakes, Cumberland sausage grill, & traditional fish & chips (haddock & the peas were fresh & not tinned). Tempted by the desserts, we also had a jam & coconut sponge pudding, & a chocolate sundae. All the food was fresh & delicious. The staff were friendly, helpful & attentive. We chose to eat in, but there are tables outside in the courtyard. Everything is very accessible, & there are drop off places for those with less mobility. I was told the Sunday lunches are very popular, so itâs...
Read moreFood was good but... we ordered 2 breakfasts. One came with an egg well done and another with runny white. Not a problem to ask nicely for it to be flipped we thought but we were TOLD OFF for not asking when ordering! Nowhere on the menu does it state that eggs are served with runny whites. One was served runny and the other wasn't. Perhaps, as part of the usual service that one would expect in a cafe like this, it would be prudent to either state on the menu that eggs come with runny whites, or to ask the customers their preference, rather than tell the waitress to treat customers in this way. The meal itself was lovely but won't be returning with THAT sort...
