We were so looking forward to this, so I suppose maybe that's why the disappointment could feel worse than it should do?.. We rarely get away but booked 1 night here as a place to stay before a day experience at a local forge. I found the inn and chose it Purley for the food, I wanted a special meal for us as part of this getaway. 3.5hrs on the road to be greeted by "did you get a message we've no chef today so no food tonight " I was completely gutted, but we smiled and went up, I didn't expect big rooms, we're simple happy folk and easily pleased but the room was so tiny, the bathroom door hit the bed, it was so squeeky I'm surprised I didn't wake the whole village in the night. The pictures have certainly been well taken. We got back in the car and found somewhere to eat, returning at 8.55 to a locked pub in darkness that said it was open until 10..no drink and chance to ask about breakfast or anything for the following morning. Not welcoming or informative at all.we decided after a disappointing time so far to watch a film, after 2 hours of constant freezing and resetting we gave up. In the morning we got packed up, cam down at 8.15 (not exactly crack of dawn) again to an empty locked pub, no one could be found, we searched everywhere for someone. So we had to leave the front door unlocked and the keys on the bar. Disappointing alround for us, really did tarnish what was a rare chance for us... We're the sort of people who will chat to anyone but we really felt like you're not local so we're not interested. I read lots of good reviews before choosing this, it was far too expensive for room only stay but I'm lots of people have had a better time than we did. Certainly...

Yesterday, eight of us came here for an evening dinner and drinks. I was quietly looking forward to eating here, and whilst I normally don't write reviews, I felt compelled to leave a rating.

What really impressed me with The Cross Keys was their care and attention to detail before and during our visit. Our party had dairy free, gluten free, and vegetarian diners - not the easiest group at the best of times - yet a menu had been set aside that detailed all of our needs. We could bring dogs. It was okay that a couple of people had cancelled, so we were a bit smaller. They were really nice and attentive to us throughout. The whole experience was lovely, like being in someone's house for dinner.

Speaking of dinner, the food was great. It's a meat-forward menu, so if you're into that, have the steak frites. This is important to note because they can cook a bavette steak perfectly medium-rare, whilst serving seven other dishes, in the middle of service on a Saturday. The burgers were also a hit, and the bourbon brisket was an intriguing choice that I almost made instead. I wish I had space for dessert. Should I come back to the area, I'll be sure to check it out.

If you're in the area and are looking to celebrate, come to this place. Eat the steak frites. Drink the local beer. Check out their dessert menu - and unlike me, show...

Paid £134 for an over night stay . Arrived , garden and out building shabby . Rooms accessible via behind the bar up some Steep steps . Room very small . Too small to even call cosy . Sach window that didn't stay open . Had to use the scatter cushions to wedge this open . Shower was freezing then boiling hot then freezing clearly needs attention. A bottle of radox shower gel on window ledge for toiletries. If your not supplying then don't! Room very noisy from road below . But too hot to not have a window open . Breakfast , it had been explained the evening before come down help yourself to fruit juice and cereals . No where to be seen || Waited for the chap to finish his cigarette outside before coming and telling that we would both like a full English. No choice given until we asked for poached eggs on toast . Coffee was cheap nescafe . Orange juice was from the syrup gun behind the bar || This all felt just a little bit under managed . However on a plus side the evening meal was nice but items ordered were missed off but then later still on the bill . ||Family run business with huge potential just a bit loose...

Fantastic little pub located at Goodrich just off the A40, my wife, me and my two dogs were welcome at the pub, nothing was too much for the staff and they even cooked food that was not on the menu for us and even prepared coleslaw for us from scratch as it was not on the menu, I take my hat of to this place as nothing was too much for them, but most important to me was the security of the fences for my dogs to rome about and this seemed to be spot on, the staff were ever so dog friendly and this was a major plus in my book as my dogs (two Scottish terriers) are like my kids, this made me and my wife more relaxed and chilled. As it is firstly and fore most a pub, I think I better mention the beer, there’s not much of a selection of the real ales available here, but what is on offer are good ales though, me being a Scotsman, one of the things I love about England is the real ales, as the softer water of Scotland does not make for a fine ale, only better coffee. All in all I shall return when am next down at Ross on Wye with my canoe

Lovely Inn nestled in a very picturesque part of Herefordshire. Was a little hard to find originally as the postcode given by booking .com took us to the wrong place but that's not the fault of the Inn. Very traditional looking Inn with plenty of space in the car park and very lovely staff to welcome us in as we were a little late due to traffic. Room is beautiful with part exposed brick and really adds to the rustic look that is ongoing throughout the pub. The room was a very nice size with a very comfy bed that gave a very good night's sleep. We ordered the breakfast for the morning and it was very good in quality and quantity. The singing chef also adds to the atmosphere and is actually a very good singer (not sure if he knew we could hear him). Would recommend and will be returning again.

We had a warm welcome at the reception of this cosy pub and attentive staff. Great selection on the menu and great service. We decided on.... Fresh warm bread and oil and olives to start followed by a superbly cooked, high quality fillet steak and real chunky chips, huge onion rings and tasty pepper corn sauce, mushroom and tomato. Crispy duck salad with a surprise kick from the chillies, delicious. Dessert didn't disappoint either, all served by friendly staff. Our room was fresh and clean - we could hear the heavier traffic, however that was outweighed by convenience/location. Great value for money.
