Visited this establishment on the way home from the coast on the hottest day of the year. Ordered 2 double Gin and tonics and a cider and was informed they didn't have any ice because the ice machine didn't work. Asked if the tonic was chilled well as thought it might not be too bad if that was cold, which they said it was. Came to pay and they over charged by adding 2 ciders on the bill, which I only picked up on because the bill was so high and at first the woman was trying to say it was correct. Picked up the drinks and they were warm, tonic was not only hardly chilled but flat too! It was not bottled tonic but out of a pump, to add insult to injury they charged £1.70 per splash of warm flat tonic. They only put a small amount of tonic in so we thought with the drinks being doubles and the level of the drink in the glass and I thought it might be too strong however none of us could taste gin at all. The guy who seemed in charge didn't have a very friendly approach at all and they woman who served us didn't seem to have a clue as to what she was doing, however she was polite. Couldn't understand why being a pub and the fact it was extremely hot weather why they hadn't been and purchased bags of ice knowing the machine was broken. It's not like they couldn't afford it at prices they were charging View of the river was also spoilt by the abundance of over grown nettles. Other customers outside were talking about the warm drinks too and also rubbish and dirty cutlery under some of the tables. Real shame as this could be a lovely little pub especially because of its location on...
Read moreWe enjoyed our evening meal as a party of 6. However, we were completely shocked when we received the bill to see that every desert was charged £9.50! This is a pub! Even the Beverley Arms hotel restaurant does not charge that amount. All we had was teacle tart, with a tiny single mouth amount of clotted cream, that was not enough for each spoonful of tart. The tart was very basic and stodgy. If the price of desert was written (as it should have been) on the blackboard menu, none of us would have ordered a desert. £60 almost for 6 cakey puddings. We did not ask the price beforehand, foolishly, but probably didn't think we would need to. £5 to £6, or if the puddings were akin to somewhere like The Beverley Arms, Ticton Grange, Carlucio's, Cerruti etc, then £7 or just over, is the price we would have expected. We did complain to a member of staff on payment to which they said they would put the price on the menu next time. The staff were very good. The main meals were acceptable in standard for pub grub and price, but the puddings need re-thinking on quality and price. We will return, but only for a main course next time. The extortionate price did ruin the overall experience sadly. Waiting time was much longer than expected but we didn't mind that too much but other people were not so happy, some leaving without their meal. It is a much better pub now and worth a visit, but just needs the issues tweaking to...
Read moreWe visited last night, after viewing the menu on google we saw there was a few vegetarian options on the menu, looked really nice & reasonably priced , 7 of us in the party 2 vegetarian when we got there there the menu was totally different to what was on google . So we choose an aubergine tart & a cauliflower steak ,both were awful the aubergine tart was slimy no pastry was sat in a bed of something brown , with some burrata on the top , it just didn’t go well together didn’t look very appetising & didn’t taste it ,the cauliflower steak was mediocre not a very satisfying meal. saying that the others food were beautiful, a burger a steak, the fish & chips & a meat pie , they all loved it, but the vegetarian food definitely let it down . And it was overpriced ! One peice of aubergine with a bit of greenery for £16 ! Which was very disappointing as we were looking forward to a nice curry or a halloumi burger . So please update your google menu & chefs please re think the vegetarian options & just look at the plate & ask yourself if you’d be happy...
