We have just returned from our visit We arrived at 19.43 sign on counter and door stated kitchen closes at 8.00pm The manageress told us that if we didn’t order in the next 2 mins then she couldn’t put it through. 20 seconds later you now have 1 min and if you order starters then it all comes out together. Kitchen closing for maintenance??? Sat night!!! My wife quickly chose scampi then went to the toilet, that left 4 of us to order in less than 1 min and she was adamant the order would not be put in if not done now !!!!!! We all ordered quickly, one of us ordered a big sharer as a starter, “ that will come with the mains.” 2 jumbo mixed grills 1, 12 oz steak and a fish and chips, not forgetting the scampi, ordered done at 19.47. I have the bill to prove it, we then ordered drinks, whilst waiting for the drinks my wife came back from the toilet. ‘ excuse me, are you the manager, yes, why, sorry but your toilets are a state, dirty, no soap yet your sign states cleaned every hour with a signature , what followed can only be described as rude, a real attitude towards customers, customers who incidentally pay the wages, I quote. Another complainer, i have been on my feet all day, running round after you lot and you moan about the toilet, unquote It seemed, after I ordered and paid for the drinks £21.90 and the food was £51.00 and this lady had calmed down, she was closing early because staff had not turned up and she was, her word, Knackered . That I said does not excuse your attitude towards us and to rush us into ordering and then being abused is diabolical. She apologised and said, staff are a pain, so that is why you are closing early on a Saturday night, yes!! I walked away. we waited. now remember our starter would come out with the main!!!! or at least that was she stressed, The starter came after 34 mins we all, 5 of us shared it, 15 mins later the first of the mains came out, one of the grills and the fish and chips, then the scampi and the steak. 5 mins later the final mixed grill, So what on earth was her problem? Why the rush? ??? She also said and again I quote, once the food is out I will give it 1/2 hour then the doors are closed !!!! We left at 21.48, still the doors were open and even people being served drink?????? The food, well let’s just say it was edible, was the place clean, certainly not the toilets, were the staff pleasant, not the manageress, as for the waiter who served us, missing a smile is all I will say, I will be sending a fuller review to Green King in Bury st Edmunds. The attitude, the service, in fact the whole experience was a total car crash. Thank you Cuckoo Oak, will we be back, what do...
Read moreMyself and 3 other elderly people went in today and had lovely food off the Pub Classic menu. The only downside was the tiny portion of baked beans served with the breakfast.I asked if I could have a few more, but to cut a long story short, I was told this was the normal portion but I could pay for more and that basically we were getting a good meal deal anyway. The blonde haired lady who had served our table said if a customer was nice she would probably get them a free portion but I wasn't nice! My 3 companions were astounded and said I had been polite about it. However, a few minutes later the lady came back with a free portion of beans, compliments of the chef. Which was a very kind gesture. After we had finished our meal, which I think was table 24, we sat at the table chatting for a while, Suddenly the blonde haired lady appeared at an elevated position from us and then another lady with dark hair tied back appeared next to her. The blonde lady said something to her and then the blonde lady blatantly outstretched her arm and pointed to me.They both smirked and then they both disappeared behind a wall. They were obviously talking about me in a not so very nice way. On our way out I intended to ask the lady why she had done that in front of other customers as I had found it very embarrassing and intimidating. Unfortunately I could not see her. This episode spoilt an otherwise pleasant afternoon for us and I really found it upsetting.I mistakenly thought that those staff were trained to act in a more professional manner...
Read moreOur first experience of this place is that the staff seem friendly enough and the food was ok but when we ordered our food we weren't told there was a waiting time and we ended up waiting nearly an hour for our food. When it arrived my husband's order was correct and enjoyed, so thumbs up there but mine was supposed to be a grilled halloumi salad and they brought me a battered halloumi salad and the salad was not much of a salad at all, missing some of its ingredients. If I had known they were going to bring battered halloumi I wouldn't have ordered a side of sweet potato fries. Also the table behind us had been waiting a long while too. A man there complained he had been waiting an hour and a half and kicked up a real fuss so he got his meal for free. 😂
Update: Shortly after writing this review the manager of the Cukoo Oak contacted me to apologize for the poor service that evening. She gave us a voucher to have a free meal and drink × 2 as a way of making up for what happened. The night we went back the meal waiting time was still 45 minutes but at least we were told this time. The food was good, as was the wine and the portion sizes were generous. We got what we ordered and the service was good and as before the staff were friendly, so much better outcome...
