This was our second meal at the Dog & Partridge, it was certainly an experience but not necessarily a perfect one…
Our first trip to this pub was mid 2022 when we stopped for lunch one day, it was quiet and the food was great, unfortunately the same can’t be said for tonight’s visit.
The good points… We managed to get in at 7pm on a Friday night which is great. The decor is lovely, it’s a very cosy place to be. The prices are reasonable. The staff are very friendly.
A few key points during tonight’s visit…
Firstly my partner asked for some tomato sauce when our starters were brought out, this seemed to be forgotten about and after about 5 minutes I had to go and hunt for a member of staff to get some ketchup.
The starters… My pork belly was dry and a bit tough, I was hungry so I still ate it and it was a good size portion, it was just very difficult to cut with a knife and lacked in flavour - not the best I’ve ever had.
My partner’s battered halloumi on the other hand was the total opposite, it was absolutely divine! We both could’ve ate another portion of it - it was seriously impressive, great texture and stacks of flavour.
The mains arrived, I opted for the sirloin steak (medium rare) which was cooked to perfection, the steak with the peppercorn sauce was a wonderful burst of flavour and the chips are delicious - dangerously moreish!! - I do believe I was supposed to get coleslaw with it but that never arrived and I was halfway through eating before I noticed it was missing so I didn’t bother to ask for it.
My partner had the ham and cheese melt baguette with chips, again she really enjoyed it and said it was very filling which is great.
The part that fully ruined our experience isn’t the fault of the restaurant at all… the family that were sat next to us were having full blown arguments amongst themselves and swearing at each other, even the kids were swearing… This really killed the whole atmosphere for us and made us want to leave pretty quickly, we would’ve had dessert but we wanted away from them, typically they left just as we got our bill, bad timing.
All in all, if you’re looking for a cosy country pub with a cosy decor and huge menu then the Dog & Partridge is...
Read moreAfter a long hike around the coast, we came across this pub on our way. Being new to the UK, we didn't know that Sunday Lunch tables had to be booked. When we walked in to a not-so-full dining room our initial greeting was met rudely because of this. We ended up sitting in the bar room instead and ordered. Between 4 of us, we ordered 2 pies (Turkey and Ham + Beef and Ale) and the Sunday Roast (Turkey + Ham). The pies were delicious, however the Sunday Roasts were quite below average. Flavourless and tasted re-heated with an uneatable Yorkshire Pudding which seemed very...
Read moreVisited a few weeks ago for the bank holiday weekend and could not find one fault! Perfectly picturesque, we sat outside as we had the dogs with us, which they provide bowls and water for. Food was sensational, all 4 of us ate something different and were all blown away by the quality, quantity and taste for the reasonable price we paid. Staff were very polite and friendly. We will definitely visit again and would...
