2025 update: Still very popular VERY popular with lots of well behaved dogs..and their owners. I think it's under new management, certainly more staff, all youthful, cheerful and competent. Particularly good barrista (I'm not a coffee expert, but this americano was spot on, decent strength, hot, and very tastey). We were there for a family get-together before a walk on the beach, 3 dogs two grandchildren their mother and her partner. Everyone satisfied with their drinks (including the oatmilk coffee..) ditto their small, as in not a full on meal, snacks; ncluding our glutten intolerant grandson's cake, Sunday dinner....in a bun, a really hearty broth, a scone and cuppa tea, and a bacon sarnie. I have to say (I know comparisons are odious but..) it's no longer cheap, although still cheerful. Total cost...OK there were 6 of us but..the total cost (over £12 a head) was more expensive than two superb three course 'lunches' and coffee and drinks at the Cook and Barker Newton on the Moor..but it's horses for courses, and for; a pre/post walk (on an excellent beach) hostelry, with a huge menu of good old fashioned fare it's pretty much unbeatable. 2024 uodate: The Drift has expanded significantly since our last visit, early in 2023 more than doubling it's outside facilities. Despite it being 2pm the inside café was , and so along with 4 or 5 other couples we sat outside on the wooden benches. We've had a lot of rain, and sadly the benches need revarnishing as they're very porous. It was like sitting on wet blotting paper. We could have gone in the recently acquired double decker, but it is very basic, so we opted to stay outside. Lots of dogs and owners both inside and outside this is a truly 'dog friendly' café. However, our coffees and warm cheese scones were brought out within 5 minutes, and despite warnings that anything from the kitchen had a 30 minute wait time our grandson's pulled pork toasted wrap was only 5 minutes behind the coffees. Quality as always (We've been visiting for more than 10 years now) excellent, good honest, tasty offerings, at a reasonable price. Despite wet seats we left well satisfied with our warming drinks and very satisfactory snack.

A must visit spot for lunch if you are visiting Cresswell beach. Very friendly staff, an excellent menu, and dog friendly which is so important these days. No dogs inside unfortunately, but there is a large outdoor patio and a big marquee if the weather is not great. I can personally recommend the bacon, egg, black pudding and haggis sandwich, super tasty and it will fill you up. It does get busy and food can take up-to 30 minutes to arrive as it’s all made right there in the kitchen, but there is a big sign warning you of that when you order. Fortunately for me the latte arrived very quickly to keep me going. 😊. I will definitely be back next time I’m in the area. Update: I have been back, a couple of times, still great. Also I discovered I could take my dog inside to order you just can’t sit in. But the marquee is dry and heated so no problem. Good to know if you are alone with a dog and wondering how to order, always a question on my mind.

The Drift Cafe was recommended by a friend. Great little find. Fantastic menu with something for everyone. I had the full English with great quality produce and my friend had a lobely omelette that was so big she couldn't finish it. Loads of parking with an assortment of paths through the dunes to the beach. The staff were all lovely and helpful (especially the black guy eith his smile - sorry we didn't get your name). Coffee was perfect and nice to see San Pelligrino on offer. Key lime pie *and all the cakes) looked amazing bit we were too full. Clean and fresh with local artwork and trinkets to buy. Indoor loos ok but new loos in the marquis. We'll be back. Soon. Every meal that passed us looked amazing. Give it a go.

Im going to be real. This place was amazing about 6 months ago and im really not sure what has happened. Everytime I come here my order seems to get messed up and not rectified in a way that im content with. I always get the haggis special and ask for it without black pudding and on white. Last time they forgot about the black pudding and added it to my sandwich which is an easy mistake to make if you make them day in and out, however I told staff member and all they did was remove it from the sandwich which still left the residue of the black pudding. Today when I visited I got the same sandwich again but for some reason came in a brown bun. Easy mistake to make again but when I notified a staff member all they did was transfer the filling to a white bun but the egg yolk had popped in the previous bun leaving just egg white within the 'new' sandwich. I usually dont like to leave negative reviews but charging 10.50 for a sandwich it should be coming perfect every single time. You guys should offer to remake the sandwiches if a customer has informed you of an error because like I said, its not cheap and the person taking the order should confirm the order back to you before you pay so you can rectify any communication issues or typos on the system (thats if thats where the error happens!). I hope this gets listened to and rectified because I really love the place, location and atmosphere and want to be able to amend this review to 5* the way it used to...

The worst experience I ever had I need this cafe was on 29 May 2023. The service was terrible. Bad customer service. Uneducated employees. It was a holiday and it was full but that is no excuse for the attitude of the woman working in the teller. Never again. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. And reading the comments here, I was not the only one to have this bad experience. I gave ONE STAR because you can’t give ZERO STAR. They deserve ZERO STAR.

I don’t have Facebook, but a friend showed me that you posted my comment about the poor service at your cafe. Laughing at someone over “grammatical errors” is not going to fix your poor service. It wasn’t even about “grammatical errors “. It was just not having corrected the text before sending it.

That’s three generations of people who have frequented the cafe and now don’t even pass in front of it. Before you allow your customers to make fun of me, you should think about your mistakes as company manager. Before I gave my opinion, I checked the comments of customers and former employees. And what I saw was not...
