Elephant & Castle — Restaurant in England

We booked a table here for a Saturday afternoon, (booked by phone on the Monday prior), but when we turned up they claimed no knowledge of the booking. Unfortunately we had young children with us and the family bar was booked out for a private party. The bar staff were plain rude in denying all knowledge of our booking, despite us being able to prove exactly when we called. At one point one staff member (I assume manager?) called over to one of the other staff across the pub as to whether he would have taken the booking (saying he was the only member on at the time we called). Given he'd already overheard the conversation he wasn't exactly going to admit to a mistake in front of the other customers. At no point was there even a half-apology for any mistake and they basically accused us of booking the wrong pub [we double checked the number we called and it was the correct place. The customer is most certainly not always right here! Needless to say we didn't hang around, (nor were we even told whether we could take a seat in the main bar, let alone offered any alternatives in terms of times if that weren't the case)....

A proper little country (ish) pub with a garden and more importantly the servers were so friendly and welcoming! Food was great, rustic and simple pub food. It is so simple but so hard to do these days apparently!

We went here to watch the Euro 2020 football final (England vs Italy) and the servers were instantly so warm, smiley and friendly! There was a nice buzz inside the pub and they brought out plates of chilli at half time for all the people watching 😍

I wouldn't even give this place 1 star the staff were awful, argumentative and unhelpful. Staff appeared from the back to back the first employee who couldn't give a damn and told us not to be rude when we were actually looking to just order some food and have a nice evening with the kids. We walked out after the person serving us told us we didn't have to eat there, unbelievable! Maybe a hit with locals but don't expect any new custom unless you get a lesson in customer service. Menus were lame and over priced. Didn't get as far as ordering went down the road for much better service. No idea how this place got so many good...
