I'm writing this review so that people understand there is not a cafe or pub tea/beer garden here. It's an open area with a few tables & brollies over and a small covered area for rescue from the elements, & snacks only are served from the stalls. The options are limited, but the food is lovely, though not inexpensive. There's a little kids play area & the waterfall is nearby the house. Public toilets are 2 small wooden shacks with no windows in the gaps, but they are spotless. T.paper, soap, sanitiser is all provided at the little sink in the middle. It's a stunning stunning area at the bottom of a steep bank & there are various forestry walk options nearby. On the day it turned really cold and poured down, so several people were caught out. There are places which wont be easy for those with mobility issues. Keep tight hold of your dogs & children as the walkway is not fenced in & theres a heck of a drop ... its a fab and au naturelle adventure ramble through the woods. Just be prepared more than we were. We thought we could go for a nice walk and then have a nice lunch after, but no that's not the case. Parking is also very limited. It was really busy early on. A few ignoramouses even parked in the passing places, selfish idiots as usual . But in nice weather it would be a proper little sun trap & there is loads of wildlife and birds to spot. the lucky owners of the house there are in a very secluded spot in a beautiful area and have almost become fruitful...

Falling Foss is Easy to find through Ruswarp, it’s quite a narrow drive off the main road, but easily manageable. Parking was plentiful when we arrived, but was getting busy as we left. It’s a pay and display car park by Ringo, but we didn’t have a phone signal, so paid when we got home. There was a couple of people panicking over paying. The Tea Garden opened at 10.00, so we had chance to have a short look about till it opened. When we got in, we grabbed a table and benches, it was very clean, and slightly sheltered by trees, but wouldn’t be ideal in rain. We went to order our food and drinks, a rather abrupt gentleman was serving. I’m not sure if he didn’t want to be there, or got out the wrong side of the bed, but his attitude was poor, and is reflected in my score. The food was great, and my coffee was lovely (Dairy free latte). The walks around the gardens and woods are well laid out, things to see and explore, it’s definitely for people who are able to walk down steep gravel paths. Pushchairs with care, not sure about a wheelchair. The waterfall didn’t look accessible to go under it, but the views are pretty nice from the fenced area above. A bit of tree twig cutting wouldn’t go amiss, but that’s a job for the forestry commission. We’d go again, but would hope different staff would be serving. There is no need to be that abrupt when we were more than polite. We spent £55, 5 adults and a child that just had bits...

A great little place. Was busy when we visited but not massively.

the walk down to the falls and tearoom, although steep is done easily with people who can walk easily and the right footwear.

there is two options to get to the falls at one point. one is steep and rocky and the other is slightly better. take the better one.

once at the fall is was gorgeous and peaceful. enough space to take a few photos if wanted. we tried to scout out how to get down the the level of the falls but it seemed to steep for some of the people I was with, so we missed it out, but I'm sure it's easily enough done as we saw kids and dogs down there!

walk around a bit and you'll come to a bridge with a stream where kids and dogs can have a paddle. very peaceful and quaint.

the tea garden is gorgeous. there's some shady and sunny spots to suit your preference. it was busy so we only just snagged a spot in the shade as it was hot. all of us had the sandwiches and they were gorgeous. Big enough to be filling and came with a salad, coleslaw and crisps as garnish. filled us all up nicely.

the trek back up the hill was a tad more difficult but just make sure to have water on hand and park down at the bottom carpark instead of the overflow car parks and you'll miss out a section of the steep hill anyway.

Overall a gorgeous place, I would definitely go back! You should visit if...

We enjoy this place so much, we drove two hours! Beautiful scenery. We went on the bank holiday weekend and it was both sunny and very busy. They had a great queuing system in place (social distanced) and we didn’t wait more than ten minutes and had our food maybe ten minutes after that. We had BLT, including one on gluten free bread, with fentimans ginger beer and crisps, and daughter had cinder toffee ice cream with a juice and it was under twenty quid. We paid by contactless payment, as they now have a card machine (previously cash only). Sandwiches were lovely. The setting though is what makes it. Lots of thought has gone in to the garden and seating. Despite it been busy we had no issues getting seats and they were cleaning them regularly. Really recommended.

Service is so friendly and lovely. The location is unmatched in my view. And gin was both unexpected and beautifully served. Didn't take any more photos but it is MAGICAL. You can see the little kiosk where service is from, and the variety of seating available. A lovely stop on a walk. Honestly if we lived anywhere near here we'd be there every weekend. Please ignore the grumpy 1 star reviews, I don't understand how people can fault things like the weather and the condition of the wooded surroundings when reviewing a business. Dumb. Having said that, those attempting to drive and park right outside are probably right in it being difficult. If you are able to walk, do park at the forestry commission car park and walk along the river the 15 mins(?) to here. Stunning.
