I rarely criticise service because things happen that are out of your control, but this was a case of poor organisation. It's a real pity because this is a lovely place, which has always been a good experience in the past. The drinks today were lovely - one of the nicer lattes I've had when eating out. The food was good, but somewhat under-whelming after the 65 minutes wait from being seated to the food arriving. We came in a group of 4 for breakfast for Father's Day; no bookings are taken which I think is what causes the problem as you have no control over the flow of guests. As we arrived it was already busy and queue started to form behind us. We were seated and a server took drink orders, then told us they'd be back in 15 minutes to take food orders. 30 minutes went by and the drinks hadn't arrived, nor had the food order been taken. When the drinks did arrive (2 flat whites and 2 lattes) they were good quality and well made. Food order finally taken, and took another 30 minutes to arrive. In total, it was 65 minutes from being seated to the food arriving. The breakfasts were nice enough, but an item was missing from both small breakfasts as they'd run out, and no alternative or discount was offered. The only person who acknowledged any problem with the waiting time or missing items was the person taking the money at the end who did apologise. I would still recommend G&Tea House as the food and drinks are of a good quality and I previous experiences have been more positive, but today was...
Read moreBooked for my mums birthday, was very excited as we’d booked a pod for 10 of us. On arrival staffed seemed friendly and atmosphere was pleasant. We sat down and ordered 2 chicken shawarma’s which were awful for the price, nothing like an actual chicken shawarma, but we overlooked this as we’d had family come 2 years ago and rate the afternoon teas highly. We ordered 4 afternoon teas to feed 8 of us, so 1 between 2, because who gets an afternoon tea to themselves? But turns out the price of £22 for afternoon tea is for 1 PERSON - so the total would’ve come to £176 if we quickly hadn’t of cancelled two of them - this is not clear on the menu. It’s also meant to come with tea and coffee but neither were offered to us. So half of us went hungry and had to order scones as it was too late to order more food, they then forgot one of the scones and tbh at this point we were past ourselves and just wanted to leave. Please avoid if you’re looking for an afternoon tea out - it’s absolutely extortionate and the staff didn’t seem to care or know anything about what was being served. Very...
Read moreTerrible customer service. Visited on a quiet Tuesday morning with 15 of us in total (adults & children). Expected to have to sit outside as we had dogs with us, but on asking if we could sit in the pod area, as it was raining, we were told no - they wouldn't allow us to. Instead they said we could sit on the benches which would have been ok, but the seats were wet and there was no offer to dry these for us. The girl just gave us menus and asked if we wanted to order, I'm not sure where she thought we would be sitting to eat food, but this didn't seem to be a concern of hers.
Unfortunately, we felt very unwelcome so we left and ended up in the Royal Oak restaurant in the village & received excellent service! G&T missed out on around £150 of custom for simply being rude! Such a shame as the children were looking forward to playing outside & also having some well deserved breakfast after our walk there. The service has put me off wanting to...
