We arrived to a lovely bed and breakfast dog friendly pub. Ordered our food before going to our room as we were very hungry. The food was mediocre, the curry had a gloopy texture. When we went up to our room it was freezing and I am not exaggerating!! The en-suite warmed up a bit after they had turned the boiler back on. The shower worked and seemed to be plenty of hot water for both of us. In the information it says there is a hairdryer. We looked in all the cupboards and could not find one. We did get one when we asked but should not have to do this! If it states there is an hairdryer put one in the room, please!! It is winter and we had no heating on in the room, the bed sheets were icy cold to touch and the en-suite felt like ice when you walked in. When we informed the staff they told us the boiler had gone off. We paid £115 plus £25 for our 2 dogs for one night and we felt like they obviously did not care. If they did care then they should be keeping the boiler on as we paid for a service. We were told there was an electric heater in the wardrobe. In the morning when we took our dogs out for a wee there was no lights outside the building and it was pitch black. They had turned all the lights off outside and in the carpark and we could not see a thing, this is a health and safety issue! I would recoomend bringing a torch! There was no hot water in the morning to have a wash so we ran the tap for 10 mins to make sure but still cold which was a waste of water. The breakfast was good and served hot which was the only good experience of the place. I will not be booking again as we were very dissapointed with the room, drafts from the window and no heating and hot water in the morning. When you arrive to your destination in winter, you expect to arrive in a lovely warm room. I suffer from arthritis and my room has to be warm. It was not exactly a cheap room, so I am very dissapointed. Looking back at some more reviews customers seem to have had the same problem. Not had a reply yet from the manager, which I was hoping for! Still waiting, unless they don't read their reviews of how people feel about their business. Would like to...
Read moreOne of those hotels where you can’t help but think, how can they be so good at some of the guest experience and so bad at others.|Let’s start with the good. The breakfast was spot on. The owners have also recently re-carpeted much of the place, so they’re putting money into it and the pub loos had also had a re-vamp and had some rather upmarket hand wash in them. All of which just emphasised how poor the offer was for those staying overnight. The rooms were decidedly compact, the double bed leaving little room for anything else, including space for cases and clothes. More noticeable after the re-vamp elsewhere was the tired looking bathroom, with not so much as a rail to leave your towel to dry. The handbasin had a pump action dispenser of the cheapest hand wash on the market…such a contrast with the stuff in the pub loos downstairs and we were supplied with two miserly sachets of combined shower gel/shampoo that weren’t adequate for one adult, let alone two. They were also meant to last us for our two nights stay. Let’s be honest, if you think it’s too much to provide even the most basic supplies for guests, then don’t bother. The young man who checked is in and seemed to be the only front of house member of staff when we ate in that night, was pleasant and welcoming, if a little disorganised. The woman running breakfast service on both days was speedy, efficient and a good host. The lady on front of house on our second night was the opposite, seemingly surprised that we might want to vary the time of our breakfast and it’s contents….yes, it’s one of those venues where you have to order the night before and specify when you’ll be down, to the nearest five minutes. Her attitude was summed up by the fact she felt we were so dim as to not know our room was named after one of the lakes. To sum up, this is a pub that does accommodation, so you it’s never going ti be four star. However, if a business is going to take people’s money for lodging, they really need to up their game. Like I say, they get some things spot on, so it’s a real shame they come across as not caring...
Read moreAVOID AVOID AVOID The one star is just to comment , I would rate this place -5 if I could. Explained to the staff me and partner were on a keto diet and if we could replace the carbs like chips for more veggies, this was OK, we orderdd the rustic farmhouse chicken with cheese basil and tomato sauce and the salmon with honey mustard , we asked for some prawns on the salmon instead of chips and extra veggies for me instead of chips, they said we would have to pay extra for the prawns, we said it was fine , but asked for the honey mustard dressing to be left off. Food came out and it was covered in dressing , partner could not eat it , so waitress took dish away and was shortly followed by another waitress who abruptly told us we did not specify no dressing, we told her we did and she left with dish again. Then another waitress came out (3now) And said she had to order something else as that was the last salmon. She ordered the gammon eggs and peas.
This was the worst meal we have ever eaten , it was unedible , microwaved hard rubbery chicken some weird hollandaise sauce with cherry tomatoes in it , sloppy swede and boiled leeks , I ordered chicken wings at nearly £8 a portion to have three breadcrumb chicken wings on a plate that looked like they come straight out of Iceland. Couldn't eat these either , Gammon and eggs and peas were clearly microwaved aswell , We got up left all the food (including the kids pasta my 17 month old refused to eat) and I complained at the bar the meal was the worst food I have ever ordered. They offered 10% off the gammon and chicken on the over £50 bill , totalling nearly £49 for food we couldn't eat. I paid the bill and left angrily.
This is a place to avoid for food at all costs , the "chef" is about as passionate about cooking as the staff are with customer service.
